I wonder the same thing, would be sooo much better without it
Yes, doesn't make sense to me. I'd either go for three "proper" subdials, or just the two...not 2 1/2

If you’d remember, the 1st of 5 decades 50th Anniversary Monaco was unveiled at the 2019 F1 Monaco GP almost a year ago! 6x LE TAG Heuer Monacos unveiled in a span of 1 year! Wow! I really like the combination of colors, out of the 6 Monacos, this is my 2nd pick, the 1st being the 5th decade Monaco! 👍

I think the running seconds on this and the other H02 Monaco are just fine. They are very subtle.

As you all know, I'm a Monaco enthusiast, but I find that this color combination clashes.

Maybe if the subdials were on a different color... maybe something like this?
I don't know, the red sub-dials don't bother me. The red & white color scheme evokes historic Ferrari and Alfa Romeo to me. But the big solid white circle juxtaposed against its square case is something that I'm not used to seeing on a Monaco.

Instead of the circle, I think if it was a solid red dial with white stripes, I would have liked it more. For example, if it had used dual double stripes (like on this '74 Ferrari 312B3), with a set of stripes running through the left register and another set running through the right, it might have been better to me.

Are you thinking of getting this model?
I'm tempted, but really shouldn't, as I'm already stretched having bought 2 Monacos last year.

Actually, this is the 8th LE to be released in a span of one year. You forgot the Hourglass40 and Final Edition.

Stripes would have been fine. My edits were a quick way to make it a bit more coordinated, while retaining the key traits. Regardless, this one is not for me.

Oh my! My bad. I forgot about those! 😵‍💫 I’m saving up for the 160th Carrera! It’s currently at the top “priority” list 😁 I just hope it becomes available locally or else i’d scour the ends of the world again 😜

The 160th Carrera is lust worthy. However, I'm going to hold out for the panda Carrera that @Hubert eluded to.

This Monaco has my attention, but I need another Monaco like I need a hole in my head. LOL 😵‍💫
I'd like to see it in the metal or at least see some live wrist shots. And I just have this sneaky funny feeling that TH can't pass up the 50th anniversary of the movie Le Mans to release another Monaco Gulf next year. 😗

BTW. I just saw a video of Horacio Pagani. His 2 favorite cars are the Jaguar E-Type and the Porsche Gulf 917! At the background is a poster of TH’s Superstar Hero, Heuer Monaco Legend, King of Cool himself, Steve McQueen 👍 Great video about cars, passions and emotions. (Like watches 🥰)

If you're a traditionalist, you may not get what you want. Some might even say, it could leave you feeling a bit blue

How so? Is it not a heritage Carrera? Please elaborate...

Sorry, seems like the meaning of my message blue right past you. I'll try to be more clear next time 😉

The classic Carrera Panda will probably take years to come. What others like @abrod520 have been alluding to, is a modern TAG Heuer carrera redesign that is due to be released this year.

Actually, I got the double meaning. But I like the color blue, so it's a plus as far as I'm concerned. 😎

What a nice surprise and a very cool piece!
While I do prefer the cleaner look of the red '80s Monaco 50th, I would be happy with this one too. But I'm holding out for a hopeful future release of a Monaco H02 Gulf edition. (Just my wishful thinking.) 😉

I really like the box, wish they had used red on the box of the 50th anniversary too.

Looks good! The 80's edition certainly had a short run as the only red Monaco! I don't like the writing on sapphire caseback though. Does anyone else think that with the 02 movement it would be cool if the running seconds were the large second hand. And the subdial was for the chronograph? Just me then? 😀

Yes, it would be cool, and probably the way it should be, if a crown on the left edition ever materializes. However, if it involves a significant change in the movement, it will most likely not happen.

Black/white always works but the seventies Carreras with grey/blue subdials are a treat

How would that aid legiblity though? I get that it's more impressive that way, but as a chronograph it wouldn't really make sense from a usability point of view...
