1993 Series 2000 Bezel

First off – hi! Thank you for letting me join.

I’m a new member and stumbled across this great site today, whilst desperately trying to find out more information about my watch (series 2000, 1993). I purchased it from new and its served me well since – probably worn just about everyday since then. However, a problem arose a year or two back when the bezel developed an annoying habit of popping off when I jarred my hand/arm. I didn’t think too much of it and put it down to wear and tear, but in retrospect I suspect when it was last serviced the bezel retaining clip wasn’t re-fitted! I didn’t give it too much thought as I always noticed when the bezel fell off. However, a couple of months I noticed to my horror that it wasn’t there and has been lost ever since (probably somewhere in the house or garden).

So the search has begun – so far to no avail - to source a replacement. I have searched in vain the net and contacted various places including TAG – their response (when I quoted the model 962.206) was simply that this is no longer available. Now I’m lost and don’t know where to search.

So, first off does anyone know where I could source a new or replacement bezel – buying a second-hand watch might be an answer but seems a little excessive to simply change the bezel from one watch to another.

Or alternatively would another series 2000 model bezel fit – be it earlier of later. I think TAG simply looked at the model number and noted that they don’t stock this paricular one – even if another model has exactly the same bezel or an alternative one that would fit. This is not the ideal scenario of course but at least it would remain a TAG item – I’ve currently had to fit a very inferior Accurist item and it really is not what I want to continue with. A picture of the rather sorry looking bezeless item is below for reference.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated – or perhaps there’s been a similar thread on here that someone could point me towards.

Thanks, Mark

There's quite a lot of bezels on eBay, that could be a good start...

Yeah, thinking about it, most of the bezels on there are for classic F1s... what about Chrono 24?

BTW - if anyone out there knows the significance of the watch no (i.e. 962.206) - I'd be grateful.

It looks like the first 3 digits (962) signify a particular style/size whilst the last 3 pin it down to things like dial colour, case finish, etc If so does this mean any 962 model bezel would fit?

Not sure if @Aquagraph knows any more about these older model codes, but from this thread:
https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/can-somebody-explain-the-codes-for-tags-please.194183/

I've never come across anything in the TAG catalogs or on line that deciphers the old 6 digit, ###.### codes. However, over the years I have found the last two digits denote the size/gender

06 = Full Size and sometimes over size
13 = Mid Size

About 90% of the time:

15 = Unisex
08 = Ladies regular

My guess is any (full size) model bezel would fit, 962, 964, 966. Since the difference between those models seems to be cosmetic. But beyond that I'm really not sure. It may be that any 9 series 2000 will fit, but I don't know that for a fact.

Good luck with that, they couldn't even confirm that a BA0842 bracelet would fit my WAZ101A F1, which I'm 99% sure it will.

I've taken a quick stroll through the 1993 catalogues - blimey theres a lot of info there. Worked out that my watch (like all others) has 2 ref numbers!!! It transpires thers a number beginning WE11......... and then the 962..... numbers. Looks like it might be posssible to work out from this exactly what differentiates each one but a lot of footwork required. However its not obvious which part (if any) of each number relates to a bezel!!! A job for when I have a little more time...

one thing I never figured out, is when the models go from using a click wire, to the flat click ring disk. That is essentially the only difference between the 2000 bezels, but it's quite a big difference. I've dealt with tag heuer bezels for almost 20 years now, and even I haven't figured it out.
