I love watch collecting, the thrill of the chase and when the day comes that you find that one special piece, the feeling of satisfaction.

I had one of these days today.
10 years ago, I heard that Tag Heuer where going to release a 40 Year anniversary model of the Steve McQueen Monaco with the crown on the left CAW211A. 1000 pieces and I wanted that watch so much.
I had hoped for so many years that we would one day see a Blue faced Monaco Re-Edition with the crown on the left. That day was here.
We had one come to our local AD and I tried it on, and fell in love.
$10,000!!! too much for me...then....but I was desperate to have that watch one day.
10 years on...I have been able to find one at a good price and a very low number on the Limited Edition scale.
I own a CAW211P and love it but it was never going to be the same as the 40th Anniversary model.

I hope I don't have to wait 10 Years to get the 50th coming this year 😀 and if that one has the Mushroom Pushers from the Carrera, I'd sell my soul to fund it.

Congrats!!! Really happy for you 👍👍

How about some side by side shots with the caw211p for those of us unfamiliar with the difference between the models?

First of all, congratulations Darryn. I know how special this is. I had to special order mine from Poland a few years ago. See:

Second, I did a photo shoot a few years ago.
2015 McQueen (CAW211P) on the left, the 40th Anniversary (CAW211A) on the right.

I had seen Hubert’s comparison when he posted it a few years ago.
I’ll get my Camera out and attemp to take a few side by sides myself when I get a a chance.

Cheers.

Congratulations. The chase is so much part of the joy of this hobby and adds so much more to any watch brought into the collection.

Congrats Darren. I was (again!) in a similar boat to you...I got mine only ~18 months ago. I love the smaller size of the 40th Anniversary..but the easiest "tell" that this is not the current Calibre 11 Monaco is frame around the date window.

Enjoy 👍

Differences are small!
- Hour/ minute hands slightly different (thin lume strip on "P" vs. thicker on "A"
- Casebacks are different
- 38mm vs. 39mm
- Date window
- Small font differences

Size is impossible to spot in pictures and casebacks are not shown in this photo. I did notice date window and hands, have not decided which one I prefer though 👎

Think its really badass to own both so kudos to you, you lucky bastards 😎

The blue color and texture is different. Can't really tell from my picture, but the 40th Anniversary is much better; especially on natural light. Spotting the difference on bright artificial light is difficult.

Also the Anniversary has a quick deployment strap.

Apart from the date window... I'm struggling here!

I know, so hard to see the difference but as David alluded to above, it is 1mm smaller at 38mm. Really strange but as soon as I put it on, I noticed that 1mm right away.
I also have the original blue face Monaco with the crown on the right CW2113-0 and this is also 38mm if I am not mistaken.

This was pointed out to me recently, but the easiest way to tell the CAW211A and CAW211P apart is that the A has 1 more notch (4) as opposed to 3 between the second markers for the CAW211P.
Oh and the length of the Red on the minute and hour hands is longer.

Here are another shots: 40th Anniversary on the right.

On this one, you can see the difference in the dial's texture.

Actually in that first shot you can really see the size difference!

Glad to be of service! 😀

In artificial bright / white light is really difficult to see the difference. But in natural sunlight, it become obvious that the 40 anniversary is much better in maintaining the blue tones in any angle. The newer caw211P model comes out grayish.

Only when lit well, the blue comes alive on the newer caw211P.
