Dear TH enthusiasts,

I’m a first time poster on this forum, but I’ve recently been smitten by vintage carreras and the re-editions from the late 90s early 2000s.

I’m looking to buy a black dialed variant from the 90s / 2000s with ref. numbers cs3111 or cs3113.

Ideally looking to pay less than USD3k for a decent condition example.

Let me know what you think the best way to go about this might be. I’m based in the UK.

Thanks!

Good choice! I would set up email alerts on Watchrecon, Chrono24 and eBay for those two reference numbers, and then just wait for a good one to come along.

You're not too far off with your price, but you may need to spend a bit more than that to get one in great condition with Heuer clasp, box, papers, etc.

If you're buying from anywhere other than the UK these days, don't forget to factor in import vat.

A wonderful choice! I had a chance last year to try one in my wrist and fell for it.

I’m looking for the slightly larger cv2111 (not to hijack, but if anyone has one...), but have been eyeing this Cs3111 on eBay that seems to meet your criteria: https://www.ebay.com/itm/184651022149

The price seems high and they are not accepting offers, but it’s been up for some time so might be worth reaching out. Otherwise, the recommendation for alerts above has been helpful in my own search. Good luck!

Agreed that the CV2111 is nice as well. I’m on the fence honestly, but I’m leaning towards the classically proportionned CS with the great Lemania movement.

What’s your wrist size if you don’t mind me asking?

Cheers!

The CS is a fateful re-edition of the original. Perfect proportions but wears a bit small. No Carrera on the dial, although that doesn’t stop it from gaining value it seems. I do think its value would be more than double with the Carrera badge. The CV is a modern interpretation, gone are the classic proportions but beautiful in its own right. 39mm is still small compared to most modern chronographs. These are generally cheaper than the CS. Really different watches, you kinda need both 😉

Do you think the 2113/3113 daytona rings look too cramped on the 35.5mm dial of the CS line? Do you have a sense of the dimensions of the CS?

For ref, I have a flat 6.75inch wrist. 42mm is my absolute max and Lug-to-lug of 48 is the max unless highly curved. A Tudor BB58 looks just right and I quite like my 34mm 1970s dress watch. That’s the tough bit about buying online, I’m worried I’ll get the CS and think it’s too small or get the CV and regret the thickness...

Ha, not an easy one. I think the proportions of the Daytona rings are just right. I would choose the all black one of the CS though.
If you like a 34mm dress watch you should have no issues with the 35.5/36mm Carrera. The lugs make it appear larger as well. I’ve tried the original case a few times and always liked it a lot. You just won’t be getting a big chronograph if that’s what you fancy. If you buy from a dealer you should be able to return it if you don’t like it. But best check beforehand.

Your wrist is identically sized to mine. And the dimensions you quote are also exactly the same for me - 42mm absolute max provided the lug to lug is reasonable. The CS wears smaller than most chronographs for sure. Might take some getting used to also. But it really looks refined and classy, and is actually a fantastic size for a watch. It still feels special when you wear it.

Having said all that, I do have a soft spot for the 39mm Carreras and my CS3110 is worn less than my Glassbox Carreras. My first ever luxury watch was a daytona ring CV2113. I don't think it's too thick, but I do prefer the sharper angles and more faithful reproduction of the CS Carreras.

And to answer an earlier point, the daytona rings/subdials do not look cramped imo on the CS. The plexi crystal also means you're not losing any of the dial.

A few comparison shots for you showing size on a wrist the same as yours (6.75").

I don't have any on wrist shots of my old CV2113 I'm afraid, so the 160th 39mm CBK221B will have to do.

Yeah, as everyone said here, it’s a tough choice. I’ve got. 7 inch wrist, moderately flat.

Here’s a picture of my Cv2113, sold earlier in the pandemic to much regret.

let us know what you decide!

Looks good! I always gravitate towards the rally, but looks pretty clean on the croc. Fondly looking for the day when I can pick up a replacement to my now-gone CV2113. (For now, I'm limited to my father's early 00s Twin Time he gave me when he retired. Alas). Love the chrono on the bracelet in your avi as well.

That's a bugger, I sold one on here last year from the UK. Had the stress of having to send it to Singapore.

Any luck with one? There was an absolutely beautiful one at 3200 on WUS. Thought of posting here but it was gone. Was that you? If not, there are a few decently priced ones out.

Hey guys! thanks for all the wrist shots this is great! All of those look sooo good. I’ve narrowed down
my choice to CV2113 or CS3111. The CV with daytona rings looks great and I really like the smaller simple black dial CS.

There’s an NOS CS in France on eBay that’s really tempting but it’s hard to justify paying 25% a pristine watch when I’m going to wear it a ton.

I’ve been bidding on UK watches for both and just missed a promising auction ending for work the other day...

I’ve set all the notifications and I’m still looking! Really appreciate all the friendly input 😀

Mission accomplished. I opted to go for the CV2113 and don’t regret it. 39mm is really the sweet spot for me I think.

I came close to purchasing a CS3111 in the US but the transaction ended up being too complicated, the watch didn’t come with box and papers and I had my doubts about the size. Next time maybe!
