Congrats! Beautiful piece, great job on getting one. 👍

I believe you were also interested in the tricolor A3817 Revival, do you plan to still get one? Or has this one covered that space for you?

Tnx, if this wouldn't have worked out I would have gotten the A3817 but 1 tonneau shaped watch is enough, the dial is truly magnificent changing colour at every angle, so I'm happy to be able to look at that all day long and with 5he grade 5 titanium it's light as a feather.

How do you like the case style compared to your Fine Watch Club A386?

The A384/A3817 and A386 have been high on my want list, but I'm not sure which case style I like better and would only get one. The A386 has a classic case shape which I normally prefer, but I have many watches like that. OTOH, there's something oddly attractive and unique about Zenith's A384 style case. And I still like that Titanium Lupin the 3rd final edition, LOL.

I never tried this case style at an AD so only now I'm seeing it's sitting very high on the wrist, the A386 looks better from the side (slimmer) with a round case which I normally prefer, but as you say this is quite unique and attractive and 37mm is perfect for me. I don't think I could pull off a Monaco on my 17cm wrist so that will never happen.

The two-faced dial on the Lupin final edition is quite a statement watch but just too much for me.

Formula 1 is coming to my city this week for the pre-season testing... so today it was time to wear the dial of my favourite team 😉

Are you able to visit the track this year? I read it is closed to the public but I know you have local connections

No 🙁, this year the pre-season testing at the 'Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya' is private, without public, so no option for me to attend 👎.

F1 testing is also controled by FOM, so the local connections can't do much in this case 🤔… you need a FOM connection 😉

The 2022 pre-season testing started today in the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya… it’s time for a Modular 45 combo in McLaren livery, my second favourite team, and also powered by Mercedes 😉

Seems McQueen wore his watches on his right wrist, even the 1133 in the movie. The famous image:

Sorry to boing an old comment, but I just realised we have more proof of this (if more were needed....)

I recently came across a rather nice print on glass of McQueen sitting by his bike mending his jacket, a rather nice wall decoration. I did a bit of research and it appears to be from the 1964 East German Internal 6-day trial event.

Here's the photo:
corbis-42-30859408.jpg

(my wall print is a bit cropped from that).

You can see that he's got his watch on his right wrist.

Now - the real reason for the post.... what's the watch? I'm not afficionado enough to be able to tell for certain - but someone might?

Further - this is worth a read... https://selvedgeyard.com/2013/11/08...t-1964-legendary-tales-as-told-by-dave-ekins/

and includes this little snippet about what kind of person McQueen was:

"...
McQueen, whose reflexes were showing signs of fatigue parted company with his Triumph in a pile of rocks. He scrambled back on his bike in an attempt to continue, but found he was down about twenty horsepower. The bash through the rocks had closed his exhaust pipe. Now luckily there were some woodcutters nearby and Steve, being a resourceful chap, borrowed an ax and vented his exhaust pipe.

But this untimely detour put the Matinee Idol well behind the last rider, and while he was making an honest effort to continue, the bystanders and the kids who had been quite good about staying off the trials naturally joined the game when all seemed clear. So here was Steve traveling South at a high speed on a narrow twisting trail in the woods and there was an unsuspecting lad riding North on the same path. The meeting was inevitable, but rather than crunch a kid and his moped, Steve pointed his bike off the path. A firmly planted tree did not give way to the forces of the high speed Coventry projectile that tried to uproot it. It was a straight-on crash that put the front wheel squarely between the exhaust pipes and left not a few scratches on Mr. McQueen’s valuable face
