The BB58 has been getting all my recent attention whenever I feel like wearing a diver. So I'm trying to get my Sub back more into the rotation. Its been spending too much time in the safe. Feels nice to have this old friend back on the wrist.

My very first two tone watch... I hate taking photos of it cos it always looks scratched to hell, which it doesn't IRL.

馃槑 That right there is my bucket-list Grail of all Grail watches!!!
However finding one is difficult and they are prices outer worldly and in my town there is only 1 AD and they are difficult to deal with...... trying to "build a relationship" so maybe one day before i die i can make the list to be offered one IF one becomes available

Rolex: You need to build a relationship with us so that one day we might possibly maybe offer you the possibility of a chance to buy a watch from us.

To be fair to Rolex, they just make the watches. It's the ADs that play these games. Alright, you can maybe say Rolex are complicit, but why should they care when demand is through the roof and they're selling everything they make.

If it was possible I would take my family on a vacation to Switzerland and pick one up at the factory 馃え

That's the previous-gen Sub (114060 I think?) and they're attainable - no list to wait on. It's the brand-new Subs that the ADs can play games with.

"attainable" is a broad statement i have seen them on the previously-enjoyed market but at 2X retail and upwards.....

I think I was wrong, the 114060 is the newer maxi-case Sub and Michael's looks to be whichever generation preceded that one.

However, look around for a 14060 or 14060M ('90s to 2000s) and you'll find they go for just about what a brand new Sub lists for at MSRP. They look better, too, in my opinion with the classic case proportions.

I have been looking around 馃榾 here in Canada the new Sub retails for $9500 CDN, and the "most affordable" from a reputable source with in a 500KM range is a 1997 14060 T series with a service dial at $12,900 CDN....... not trying to sound like i have sour grapes or a Debbie Downer.... but paid less for my fist 2 cars and 3 motorcycles combined 馃槑

Ah, a quick check of WatchRecon shows a number of them in the $8700 US range but those are private sellers and I suppose you'd have to pay a premium for a "reputable" source like a dealer.

Correct, mine is the last of the classic vintage looking Submariners, a COSC 4 liner 14060M. I bought it in 2012, when the then newly released maxi-case ceramic sub was all the rage. While technically inferior, I chose it over the maxi ceramic simply because I wanted the Sub that looked liked the vintage ones, such as McQueen's COSC 4 liner 5512.

From what I've seen of recent listings, my specific model is being listed for more than double (in some cases almost triple) over what I paid.

The crazy thing about Rolex is that you can't sell it, because then you'd beat yourself up three years down the line because of how much it would have been worth... it's the perfect feedback loop!
