I don't know the lug width but yes it can be done without the end links. I like the OEM rubber/leather/alligator straps the best because they smooth out the transition from the case to the strap very nicely and also make a 43/45mm watch wear without looking too big on my 6.5 inch small wrists. I had a 43mm 1887 Carrera on stainless steel that looked too big for my wrists. The lack of a bezel made the dial too big and the drop to the thinner bracelet made it look even bigger. I was shocked the 45mm Heuer 01/02T models look and feel very good on my smaller wrists, all because the rubber bracelets with endlinks just make it work fantastic. It's a Carrera through and through, albeit heavily influenced by JCB and Hublot. I can see and feel the Heuer Carrera DNA within the TAG avant-garde modern design. Perhaps not to everyone's liking, but I am a big fan. Hopefully the broad offerings from TAG can keep everyone enthusiastic with at least some of the current and future timepieces. Owners of mutant Carreras; can you fit a non OEM strap?

Well, I never knew you could do that. Not that I would EVER put mine on a NATO.... 🤮

The proper strap, as you say, does a spectacular job of blending the lugs into the strap and making the whole thing look integrated and smooth. I really don't like the bracelet version because it... doesn't. Frankly.

Why would one defile a Heuer 01, a prototype no less, with such an awful, awful strap?

You want non-skeletonized dial 45mm ? I think its gonna happen sooner or later
Hahaha no. Just a feeling. I didn't know you're into big diameter watch.

Because the prototype rubber strap wasn't ready?

I am thinking to change my rubber strap into the black bracelet. But the boutique told me, they only have the matte color and they suggested to wait for polished one. (Which i dont know if it will ever happen)

I think the black bracelet will bring my black gold + ceramic to another level. It is a bit pricey though. I might have second thought soon.

It came on the rubber strap.

Why not? I was testing the watch for a week, so played around with a few combos just in case it looked great (it didn't).

This was the only fabric strap I had in the right size, so that's what I used 😀

So i guess its okay without the "end link" ? I might not use another original rubber strap once it expired. Want to change to black bracelet or custom leather strap.

I suppose to demonstrate that it could be done. @Calibre11 mentioned it wasn't the preferred color but what was available for the review. I agree with you that the OEM rubber straps look the best for the modular case design. edit - I just now saw @Calibre11's reply.

I wanted to put that sexy black alligator strap with red stitching from Manchester United version but LVMH was only willing to sell me a red, white, or black OEM rubber strap as that one is "exclusive" to the Manchester model so I am sticking with the original black rubber strap unless an OEM second hand MU alligator strap becomes available someday. (lol)
