Building anticipation for the arrival of the Autavia. How many of you have also pre-ordered?

The secret is this- every brand has two sets of watches that they bring to Basel. One set is the official watches for Basel discussion (shown to media) and the second set are releases that they want to show to dealers, but don't want the media to write about yet- for example, last years Carrera Heuer-01 43mm.

Very hard to get good close up shots of the second set, but they do tend to be on display, meaning shots through glass is about as good as it gets!

If it's really worth it, nick it and run!
Maybe try walking first before the first shout of "hey!" Or "ouy!" 😀

Nah, David is famous. He would be recognized as soon as he approached the exhibit.

I expect a Heuer branded Monaco, which will become the only available Monaco in the future.

The existing blue or are you expecting something different?

Funnily enough, when I was in the TAG outlet at the weekend, agonising over the purchase of the Monaco 24, the salesman said something to the effect that he thought that in the not too distant future, the Monaco would become a one watch range. I think he's probably right. And yes, almost certainly blue.

That matches the rumors we have heard for the last year or so, yet it has not materialized.

Well according to TAG's own website there are only 3 models and the LS is probably on it's way out...

Or maybe they will redo the Calibre 12 as a Heuer, leaving people with the option of Left or Right crowns?

The Calibre 12 in blue is still a huge seller. I doubt it will disappear. The modern black one, on the other hand, is a different story. I would be curious to learn about how well that one sells.

Yes, I think it would be a mistake to just have a left hand crown, as much as that is the 'Steve McQueen' one, a lot of people probably wouldn't like it. But surely it makes sense for the Monaco to be a Heuer not a TAG Heuer?

Yes, this has been the case for some time. There will only be one (men's) Monaco and it will be CAW211P, the Calibre 11 model. The Calibre 12 models are still in the catalogue, but I expect not for long.

My guess is that the Calibre 11 will stay in the Catalogue until 2019 when you'd think something special will be done for the 50th anniversary

Oh right, there goes my theory about keeping one with a right hand crown then....

There's a feature on A Blog to Watch about the Carrera and he reckons there are 120 different Carreras in the current range, doesn't that sound like about 60 too many?

Here you go:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

C11: One of the amazing things this year has been the increase in value of some of the vintage models like the Autavia. Have you thought about bringing back the Autavia, given its popularity on the market?

JCB: Yes. Autavia will be back in 2017. We are doing a new Autavia inspired by the old one. There will be a nostalgic heritage collection made out of the Monaco, plus the Monza which will be next year. And 2017 is Autavia. So in 2017 we will have three watches in the heritage collection: the Monaco- the original one with the crown on the left side- a Monza, and we will have an Autavia.

C11: Will that be a single model or will the Autavia become a new range of models?

JCB: No, it will most probably be a single model. With heritage we don’t want to start again with collection. We want a unique model. It means one Monaco. I think we have done the mistake when we released Monaco to make five, six, ten different styles or colours. I think heritage should be one. So there will be one Monaco in the future. There will be one Monza in the future. And there will be one Autavia in the future. Eventually you can have variation with the leather strap or different colour, I’m not opposed to that. But I want one model, otherwise it’s not a heritage anymore. I want a real heritage.
