What is the competition doing right and wrong?

It would be interesting to see what you guys think about what other companies are doing right or wrong with new models, ambassadors, and combining brands.

EDIT: Here's one example of a bold new direction [that a 3rd party company does to a] Rolex:

EDIT: While the design itself is polarizing, nobody can deny [specially with the case] this is a bold step towards uncharted territory.

Thoughts?

It's not Rolex, as in Rolex the mother company.

There are watch customizers - just like car tuners - recently giving Rolex some interest with custom models, PVD cases and what have you.
Les Artisans de Geneves are the most coveted (and expensive I guess), but a host of others exist.

I'm sure you've come across wild Rolexes on the Instagrams...

Titan Black are another custom outfit that advertise heavily.
They have a fabulous "Design your own" customizer on their website where you can waste hours designing your dream/nightmare combo.

(Less is definitely more!)

Frankly I didn't even explore the links any further, as I fall in the camp of not liking this particular design.

Nonetheless the question remains; I'm curious to read about what everybody thinks are some good or bad initiatives from the competition, or 3rd party customizers like this one.

Yeah i came across bamford rolex and i must say they are quite nice.

I think people wants more and more personalize design (or at least they think its not for everyone) in the future. there are some offerings of watchmaker that can personalized watch for you for under 200 USD. The only problem with that is not powered by swiss movement.

All being said. i cant judge yet if any 3rd party does to Tag Heuer. it could be good or it could be really bad. Need to see one before becoming a believer.

Mercedes Benz AMG is not bad, for example (yeah yeah car watch analogy)

I had a go on the Titan Black website creating my own multicoloured Rolex Daytona, it was fun but what I designed would be worthless. There's a reason designers are paid to design things... that said, a Submariner with a PVD case and say a red second hand, that would be nice. Subtle is the best way, but they do offer crazy colours and you can have the chrono rings pink yellow and green if you want..

Armani has launched a new line of 'Hybrid Connected' watches that retail for $295 (US dlls). Thoughts?

They're not alone.
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/michael-kors-access-hybrid-smartwatch-introducing

Michael Kors, appreciated by fashionistas, with watches made by Fossil, is going st it as well.

This smartwatch trend is reminiscent of the quartz apogee.
With a connected generation, everybody's eyeing a piece of the pie.

To be honest, when it comes to me, my iPhone takes enough of my time already to have yet another companion for it on my wrist.

Everytime I look at those new announcements, I look at my good old mechanical watch and smile.

Yes, I've been tracking the Fossil and Michael Kors watches for a while, but now that Armani has come-out with their own offering, I thought it would be interesting to discuss this "hybrid" approach.

Interesting time frame, especially since the latest sales figures don't seem too encouraging for "smart / Connected watches".

Which competition? 😁
But I think the competition is doing "fine", just let them invent the wheel again or as the Swatch Group is doing abandon their customers 🤨.

With all smart watch thing been going on, it is interesting to see how will it end up to at some point. I never been a fan of smart watch. But the policy of Tag Heuer Connected that allow us to "upgrade" to mechanical watch after 2 years, its truly amazing in my opinion.

The emporio armani connected watch for me is amazing. But i might never purchased it. Maybe someday Tag Heuer make similar better one with swiss movement inside ?

havent seen the michael kors one. I did found something on instagram that is more interesting for me. A watch that you can customized everything (dial, colors, strap, etc) and they put swiss movement inside too with price around 200 - 300 usd. Now that is something, in my opinion. Imagine you want to coined your moment with your dear one, you just need to take a picture, order the watch, and bam! you got the dial with your photo in it plus swiss movement watch.

Now, how about a mechanical or quartz movement on the case-dial, but then "Connected" functions on the e-strap like the Sony concept ^?

^ Montblanc did it, and now Sinn have a special strap where you can attach your Apple Watch.

Hmm, Boss watch not that special, but that Sony Fes is beyond cool! Must be e-ink or something they use in that bracelet, like as an e-reader screen.
