Watch Roll or Double Winder

Only have 3 automatics but like to wear them on rotation. I have a regime that works, so switch them around on set order so all running. I want to store them together in my WFH desk and am toying with either a new double winder or maybe just a watch roll instead.

Has anyone any experience with Barrington double winders? I think my single one is made by them but it’s branded Jura Watches as was a freebie. Any others worth a look?

As to watch rolls, has anyone experience with Smith & Rowe? They look nicely made and I like the Camo leather with contrasting interior. Any others worth a look?

Would you bother with a multi watch winder or stick with a watch roll that doubles up for travelling too?

Would you buy a 3 watch roll or 3 separate ones?

There’s a deal on presently so either option fits price wise.

I don't really care for winders--I feel it prematurely wears the movement since it is always in motion so I would opt for a watch roll. I don't have direct experience with Smith & Rowe but have heard good things about the quality of them. I ended up buying a WOLF watch roll (found a good deal on one). Rapport is really nice quality too.

I would also recommend a 3 watch (I bought a 3 watch roll) vs individual ones--easier to keep track of one roll when traveling or when going to a watch GTG.

That’s for your thoughts on this one. Unfortunately, a winder is necessity with a Calibre 5, but not so for my other two watches I guess.

I like the idea of a watch roll though. Smith & Rowe have a free single one when you buy another presently. You get that with a single, double or triple watch roll. Hence 2 for 1 if you buy a single. So could buy 2 singles and get 2 free or a triple with a single free. Triple is the cheaper overall deal and most attractive looking too.

I will check out Wolf and Rapport now too, thanks.

Just so many cool colour combos on the Smith & Rowe site. Camo Blue triple is my favourite, but might get an Orange single one as the freebie for travel maybe.

The noise of winders annoys me. I wouldn’t want one in my bedroom and having one on my desk gets annoying when it kicks in.

My winder runs on and off for 12 hours then sits for 12 hours. It’s on my desk and set to start when I finish work, so runs through the night and not during the day.

Sadly, I don’t think my winders are that smart, they were free. They also don’t wind my calibre 5 😕

You are very unlucky with that. 🙁

Mine was a freebie too. Winds the Calibre 5 fine.

Might be my calibre 5. It is a particularly cherished example

So I went for the watch roll from Smith & Rowe in the end.

Arrived this morning, so have thoroughly checked them out and they are perfectly made in fairness. Very pleased with my purchase, which is a Christmas gift to me from others, so needs to be sent off to Santa for now. 😉

The camo effect is really nice when the light catches it too. Difficult to capture but the two rear shots show some of the variation.

Off a topic, but you can see the accuracy differences, with all three being set at the same time.

I managed to snag one free over the weekend, with the deal they had on. My Wife chose a more subtle Mulberry with an Off White interior.

Proper pleased with that in fairness. They also do a Black Camo with Black inside, plus loads of other contrasting combos with plain textured outside.

My Wife fancied the Mulberry, so went with the flow, although it is rather nice too.

@bpsmith, could you show a pic of how the cushions are secured in the roll, sliding in or with pushbuttons?

Not at home presently, but can confirm that they are push buttons with there being 4 of them for each cushion.
