Wow!
I sold this one about 7 years ago..when I bought the watch it was in great condition, but with a yellowed dial and inner tachy ring. I managed to find both NOS parts, fitted a new gasket and it looked like it did back in 1972!

Just picked this up 1163, no V. Trying to figure this one out. My first vintage Heuer.
Congrats. I picked up a 1163V recently too. The cases were used for different versions of the autavia so all just have 1163 on them I think.

No-the 'Viceroys' did have 1163 V on them. The V is a fair way below the 1163 on the case so you have to check....if it's not there, it is a standard production 1163 which is very easily confused with the 1163V! Serial numbers help to identify it. 馃憤

Thanks for correcting me Steve. I have found the "V" on my one now - I had to remove the strap to see it 馃榾

My serial is 270XXX so correct for a late 1972/73 I think.

Yeah-that's why I said it was quite far below-it's so easy to miss! I always refer back to Mark's old post that covers these-it's still largely accurate in many respects-

Thanks. A tiny bit of paint missing around the outer edge, plus a couple of marks here and there, but nothing really noticeable at normal watch viewing distance on the wrist. The crystal has a few minor scratches which can cast a shadow on the dial, but I've looked at the dial under a loupe and it's perfect under there. Might have a go with some polywatch but on the other hand, I don't want to risk getting any on the bezel! 馃榾

Put a bit of masking tape or scotch tape around the bezel, if you're worried!
