To wind or not to wind

Hope you can help me here.
I am fairly new to TH automatic watches and recently purcased a Calibre 16 day date. I know it is "winded" automatically when worn, but can I also wind it with the crown? This would be usefull if I use another watch for a couple of days.

I tried carefully, but noted it was a little bit of resistance, so I didnt want to force it.

Does it work? Is it harmfull? Does it work at all? 馃榾

Not harmful at all...yes, you can certainly manually wind no problems. Just don't wind past the point of resistance. You can see that the Calibre 16 guide (extracts below) discusses manually winding the movement

Do TAG's versions of the 7750 not have a clutch that slips once the watch is fully wound? Every other automatic I've experienced would let you manually wind it into perpetuity, but at some point a clutch would slip and stop winding the spring. Some give an audible click, others not.

Yes, believe that they do

That's a useful tidbit of information that I don't believe I have seen mentioned anywhere else, thank you.

Do other movements (1887, 12, 17, 5, etc) have this feature?

I've never encountered an automatic watch that doesn't have this feature.

Fair enough. I guess it is just not mentioned in reviews.

I think it's been a feature of the automatic movement since the beginning, or at least for those that can be hand-wound (some can't, like certain lower-end Seiko movements). Otherwise, how would you keep the mainspring from snapping from normal daily movement?

Exactly. If that weren't the case, they would be overwhelmed with "warranty" claims.
