The Bamford Monza, the forged carbon Monaco, and the Aquaradar are all awesome!

Tomorrow's post is especially for Charlie... it's called - 'Is Hublot the new TAG Heuer?'

I'm not a Hublot hater. I am just not drawn to their designs or marketing. I did look at some in the window whilst out shopping the other day and they looked pretty well made, but they were very large and ostentatious, and that simply isn't me. I think that's the real reason some people have an aversion to Hublot - they're not exactly conspicuous, or cheap, and therefore they demand an opinion one way or the other!

    Look forward to the article.

Interesting read. But I'm not convinced the main reason people don't like Hublot is the fact they came along in the 1980s.

As I mentioned above, their designs and prices are polarizing, and people will cite any "logical" reason (finishing, brand heritage, value, etc.) to justify the subjective opinion that they just don't like the look of them or identify with the type of people that buy them.

No it's probably not that 'straightforward' but if they don't like the look, well the look is born of the 1980s, when design was about looking forward and all those 60s watches that everyone loves now were just 'old' (like the SEL is now). I think the real 'HATE' comes from the fact that they've done everything that TAG Heuer have done, but more so and charged even more for it... and of course, their taste level is questionable - some of their watches are gloriously awful, but unfortunately they are the ones that tend to get photographed more whereas the simpler, more tasteful (and cheaper actually) ones fly under the radar.

Hehe I know. I think its fun to see how our tastes evolve and change along our collecting journeys though.

Yep. It violated their code of respectfulness or some such horseshit. I mean, the post itself didn't cos it was just a picture of a Hublot and the title 'Is Hublot the new TAG Heuer', so either comparing another brand to TAG Heuer is 'offensive' or they read the article. Which I doubt very much. So presumably some Tudor fan boy got the hump, cos the brand most offended in that post was Tudor. I reckon it was probably Charlie.

Wasn't me 'guvnor. Did you tag Hublot in the post? I wouldn't be surprised if it was their marketing department.

Maybe, but considering the article was 'supportive' of Hublot it seems a bit arse-backards!
