I was Googling and came across this site, specifically the history of the Tag F1 Series (http://www.calibre11.com/overview-tag-heuer-formula-1/). My dad one that I acquired when he passed in 2002, so decided to read up.
It appears to be a Series 2 (same dial) but the glass is sapphire and the strap is metal. I'm wondering if they made any other models, because the article mentions the discontinuation :
'The problem was that while the low-cost ethos of the Formula 1 made sense in 1985, the market had changed to the extent that a watch using mineral glass and a plastic bezel was simply seen as cheap in 2000'
