So, how DO you get the back off the new Aquaracer?

So my next question, how do you remove the bezel without damaging it?

Watchmaker tool kits have a case knife - usually made of a softer metal, you insert it into the space between the bezel and case (or caseback if it's a snap-on) and pry. Carefully 😉

It sounds like we'll need Adam to make a video demonstrating the whole procedure for us on his 844

I might, I did it to my Mido Ocean Star so I could remove the bezel spring and have a bidirectional bezel. But that watch only cost me $500 so I didn't mind some experimentation!

I did kinda try this on my 2000 Exclusive once, but gave up cos it looked like it was damaging the edge of the bezel. 🙁

Unfortunately heart nothing about any new F1 generation, agree that it is time for an update of that line. The F1 deserves some love from TAG

100% agree on that one. Although not if they are going to give it that wretched old Carrera MK2 case.

More of an Autavia case if you ask me. The Carrera cushion case was slimmer and sleeker than the Autavia

Actually i read that the caseback is indeed possible to unscrew, but it has bayonette fittings to make the helmet go into right position.

With the Aquaracer Professional 300, with the exception of the crown guards, every other line is straight. You have straight angular bevels on the short stout powerful lugs. You have a 12-sided bezel, a 12-sided crown, eight-sided hour markers, straight lines racing across the dial, sword-shaped hands, and you have a 12-sided caseback with an engraving of a scaphander diving helmet with a 12-sided faceplate that sits on a decoration of hexagons. Incidentally, this dive helmet is always oriented upright thanks to a new two-part bayonet system for the caseback. But let’s go back to the front of the watch. What you get with all these straight lines is a sense of vibrancy and dynamism. These lines when contrasted by the curved crown guards create a wonderful sense of dynamic tension.

Right.... so I have just fired off an email to the guy at TH Harrods who told me that it didn't have a caseback. Let's see what he says..

This is really starting to bug me now. And if it is a caseback, the question still remains - how do you remove it!

That's what I said, but I was told no. And really would you be able to seal a 300M watch with a friction ball? Some casebacks are hard to get off with a tool.

Please find out if you can. Thanks
It’s 100% a screw down caseback…not a mono-bloc case like the old Super Professional….but I’ll ask what tool is used

Well well well, this solves part of the mystery then. Makes sense that the caseback can be removed.

I feel the dodecagon design on the caseback may have something to do with it. Perhaps a tool slots into that shape?

It's possible but it seems like it doesn't have enough depth or definition to it to use as a leverage point.

Maybe TAG don't want us to know?

The plot thickens.... I am now told that the movement isn't 'front loaded', but that they gain access to the watch by taking the crystal off. 😵‍💫

Maybe what he actually means is that if you take the bezel off there is a screw which secures the 'bayonet' fitting mentioned earlier?
