Should I have bought this 2447N from Hodinkee?

I've been following modern TAG Heuer, but vintage Heuer is out of my domain of knowledge.

A few days ago, Hodinkee posted a vintage Carrera 2447N for sale in their online store. At the time I saw the page, the watch was still unsold. I was strongly debating with myself whether to buy the timepiece, but since I do not understand how rare this item may or may not be or if the price was reasonable or not, I took the safe position of not buying it.

What is everyone's opinion on buying such a piece if it ever comes up again for sale at about the same price? Is it worth buying immediately?

Black dial Carreras are popular so asking prices are usually on the high side. This piece is another example of Hodinkee’s inflated prices though, although not extreme in this case. It has 2nd exec short hour markers so not prime example of 2447n. The case looks slightly polished but the biggest issue is the lume condition on the hour hand. I would pass for this price.

From what I have tracked Bernard has honest prices and you know what you buy. Impressive collection as well. Solid reputation. Worth following his IG as he usually lists there before on OF.

Ditto on Bernard. I reached out to him without ever meeting and he helped me tremendously with my first vintage purchase. Great collector and very nice guy.

I have an issue with @bernarddevos . Some long years ago he sold me my first Autavia 11630 parts. The price was very reasonable at the time; however if he had no done so I would be a rich man today.

To be fair, he did also give me advice I have never forgetten-

"Once you start collecting Heuer…..well let’s say you might not stop anymore, it’s like a virus." (No further comment on that one.)

**in case of confusion, this is tongue in cheek. Bernard is A1. I always remember he was keen to see how I was getting on with my 'project'-which speaks volumes and that it was never just about the money. 👍**
