When I was a kid and saw that model S/EL with the ana-digi dial I remember thinking it was the coolest looking watch I'd ever seen partly as it looked like a more sophisticated version of my F1 Chrono. When I finally got to try one on it was one of the most comfortable bracelets I'd ever worn, along with the other S/ELs and Kirium bracelets.

Incidentally my brother's first TAG Heuer F1, which was an orange first generation (the weird one you never see anymore) he was talked into because the dealer said it was the same one Senna had at the time, I've never seen pics of him wearing one of those but he took his word for it and purchased it.

Arguably the greatest F1 driver and a great loss to the sport, a great ambassador in many ways.

At that time drivers still wore their wristwatches during driving.
So the watchmakers argued that they could use the experiences
    to develop their watches.
Today the pilots receive their watches shortly before the
representation ceremony starts. Good luck for the
    watches?

    Cheers

    They're quite unusual watches:

As I wrote here, the first F1 Chronograph has two batteries...and I could never 100% who made the movement. Any ideas?

FYI, I've updated the Senna/ TAG Heuer article with a short 2015 update on the new range of....sunglasses. Still, better than nothing!

Just noticed in the first photo on the thread, the Longines logo on the feedback screen he's looking at. Interesting how that agreement might've played out with competing watch brands.

Longines bought Heuer's timing equipment in the late 1970s and then took over Formula 1 timing for several years. Here's an article that I wrote for Time+Tide almost a year ago about the history of F1 timing.

Just saw a photo of Michael Schumacher in his early years in F1 wearing the same TAG Heuer S/EL as Senna, never knew he was a TAG Heuer ambassador, unless he had bought it on his own or received it as part of TH's capacity as the official timing partner of F1 at the time. This was in 1992 when he was driving for Benneton, finishing the year 3rd in the WDC standings just ahead of Senna in 4th.

I just found this old thread. As a very young man, I was captivated by Senna vs Prost. I was always in love the ever present ana-digi SEL on Senna's wrist. Berger wore one as well. I actually have one of the original F1 watches and 3 SELs in my collection. I wore these non-stop throughout the 90's. But it's my "Senna" SEL that I cherish most. Just thought I'd share a pic of my own personal watch.

I don't know how true this is (probably not) but Richard Mille said that Massa wears his 'tourbillon' signiture watch while racing....

Thank you. Yes it's still in mint condition, everything works and it keeps perfect time. Even though it's quartz technology and may have a dated 90s look to it, it's still a sentimental favorite watch for me.

    That's brilliant!

Have you seen the story of Ron Pellat's watch here?
