I attended a dinner last night in New York City, hosted by TAG Heuer and Hodinkee, to celebrate the launch of the Seafarer. While I didn't explicitly ask either party, "How many are sold?" or "How many remain unsold?", you can be certain that this watch has been a huge success and is, de facto, sold out.

It's complicated because there are basically four channels of sales -- Hodinkee; TAG Heuer US; TAG Heuer rest-of-the-world; and TAG Heuer e-commerce -- but you can be absolutely certain that these 968 watches are all sold (or will be sold immediately when they are released into these channels).

It's a great watch and has been a successful release for TAG Heuer and Hodinkee.

Jeff

The above is somewhat at odds with the below.

Here’s a third one, now listed on eBay . . . $9800, BuyItNow —

I don't have definitive information about the release in waves, but it does make sense in view of the initial 125 watches being sold by Hodinkee. With 125 for Hodinkee to sell immediately, and another 843 to be sold by TAG Heuer, you have to imagine that Hodinkee asked for some protection from this overhang. If all the watches to be sold by TAG Heuer were available on Day One, it would have been more difficult for Hodinkee to sell their 125.

Releasing it in batches makes sense, cos what happens - it gives the impression that it's sold out and people start flipping them which further reinforces the idea that potential buyers have already missed the boat. So when your AD calls and tells you they've got a Seafarer in the idea is already established in your mind that it's a privilege to be offered the chance to own one. It's amazing that this trick works over and over again but it does. It's funny though because there's no real reason to do it this way if you truly believe that you can sell them all without any effort, but times have changed for the watch industry and the days of selling out in a day are a thing of the past.

I remember being offered a purple Monaco once and I asked if I could come and see it (a couple of days hence), but I was told no I need a deposit now or I have to ring someone else. Contrast that with the latest green Monaco which is sitting in boutiques just waiting for someone to take it out of the cabinet...

Since they've opened 2 boutiques here by me now, I now understand this better. I've had the "last one in the country" and "someone changed their mind so we have 1 available" or the "probably won't make any til next year, even that we don't know" conversations.

Sounds like you're slamming the 'AD bingo' there Ara....
I'm waiting for the "We just got the 'Rob-worn TH eyewear in stock. Unfortunately, we will have to take a deposit now or call next person on the list."

Good to hear that the watch is not sold out and still available 👍🏻 Dom, you should buy it!
I have a watch that I have been waiting to "get the call" for that I need to be ready for. Its eta is between today and December 🙂. If I had funds for a couple of watches - I would have.

Yes, it will be. I may adjust my collection after. I will see after I get it. It should be a black dial Daytona 🤞🏼

Working on getting a short video from workshop on how to remove this particular springbar. Ive been told the way the do it is with a very small flat head screwdriver type tool to slide the bar across from the open circular section. A conventional springbar tool will not be the easiest way ( as @abrod520 has shown us).

Hi Guys! Hello to my C11/THF good friends! I’ve missed joining the TAG Heuer discussion. 😀 It’s been a while since I last posted and I’m sorry I haven’t been active lately. Alot of things happening the past few months. 😲 But I’m very happy to share to the group my TAG Heuer Carrera Seafarer! I believe this is the ONLY 1 in the Philippines! (Number 654) I was able to source it through my local TH Boutique after much prodding and persuasion. 😉 I’ve used (and abused) my daily chronograph which is the TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper. 😜 and I’m glad it’s holding up quite nicely!

And now pairing it with my TAG Heuer Carrera Seafarer which i just got last night. Super excited! 😎

I’m still getting used to the new THF interface and now with the updated emojis 😜

Thank you sir Michael, sir Charlie, sir Jimmy and sir Anthony 🤝 I’ve missed you all my dear friends!

I wanted an occasional substitute for my daily Skipper which is getting a tough beating as an everyday watch and was about to jump aboard the Carrera Reverse Panda Glassbox. But when this TAG Heuer Seafarer showed up, I knew this would be the next (and last 😅) one! Same black design, Glassbox which is quite unique among other swiss brands IMHO, dial design has intriguing contrast which is very noticeable (playful but still sleek and elegant) Problem for me is since it’s the 3rd Hodinkee collab, my chances snagging one might be closer to nil 😵‍💫 Then I kept on messaging my local TAG Heuer boutique asking them if they can get one for me (I’ve bought Carrera Silver 160th 2x “Ice King” and Carrera Skipper with them so I felt I can make a special request for this) Then surprisingly, I was told they will order one for me 😍 They don’t plan getting one for the boutique since this particular watch is only for the TAG Heuer “diehards” so I right there and there, I placed my deposit so they can order one for me 🌊

Congratulations on the new acquisition . . . That looks like a great companion to the Skipper.

I'm also relatively new here, but am happy to see you back on the forum.
