Thomas

best to use google translate as this is an international forum:

Hello, my first post and a question about a problem right away.
In 2020 I got a new Monaco Cal. 11 acquired. I thought and still think it's great.
However, I have a problem setting the time.
If I set the minute hand to the exact time and push in the crown to "start" the watch, the minute hand only begins to run after a delay of approx. 15 seconds.
I heard the problem from the dealer.
The TH representative blamed the problem on the Dubois Dépraz chronograph module and said that would be the case with all Monacos with the Cal. 11 so.

Can you confirm that?

Thank you for some information

greetings
Thomas

Yes the 15 second delayed start of the minute hand is characteristic of the Calibre 11 movement, same for the Calibre 12 as well. Not really a problem, just the way it is. There should be no delay to the seconds hand, so when setting the time, you can compensate for the delayed minutes hand by setting the seconds hand 10-15 secs earlier. E.g. set the seconds hand to the 45 seconds mark, then push the crown in when ready to start; this gives it a 15 second head start to get the minute hand moving.

(FYI, my Breitling Chronograph also has this type of delay. So it's not only TAG Heuer that has this feature.)

Thanks a lot for your replies. Feature sounds much nicer than issue...

They all do that Sir.
I was setting the minute hand a bit ‘fast’ to compensate, but now I’m going with the 45 seconds method, much better idea.
Welcome Pelikan.

So.... are there any other 'features' of the Calibre 11 that we should know about? I can't believe this is something that has never come up the 5 years I've been on this forum and everyone's like 'Oh yeah, they all do that'. I mean apart from the weird chronograph thing that happens on some of them as well.... does they crown fall off every two years or the running seconds hand spin round uncontrollably for no reason once a month?

I used to set my calibre 16 Carrera half a minute fast to allow all the parts to sync, sure it was discussed here, sometime back.

Before I bought the watch I “studied” the history of the watch, the brand, the technique and so on very detailed and I simply had to get it. Shortly after the purchase I get aware of the issue and I wanted to return it, especially after the TH feedback (see beginning of the thread). During my internet research I found nothing (or very little) on this topic and, surprisingly, it seems not many people are complaining about. Also I expect a certain level of perfection from a watch of this price level, I still have it and will arrange myself with this "feature".

You've probably been too focused on your quartz collection to have noticed. 🙄

This is not specific to the Calibre 11, many mechanical automatic movements have these little idiosyncrasies that require certain techniques if one wants the seconds hand to align perfectly with the minute hand when setting the time. Something to do with the inertia needed to get certain mechanical moving parts going. It's pretty common among many different movements and ETA based movements in particular. I'm sure it's been discussed here before, although probably not in the context of the Monaco. I've read about it on other watch brand forums as well.

It's really nothing to worry about, part and parcel of mechanical watch ownership Just like it's common knowledge that a mechanical watch will most likely not be as accurate as your much cheaper quartz watch.

Again, this behavior is not specific to the Monaco or TAG Heuer. As an example, here is a link discussing the behavior in general: https://mb.nawcc.org/threads/slow-minute-hand-a-problem.66177/

I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy your new Monaco in good health! 👍
