Yes sir! If you buy what connects to you, and buy what you love, all the more it becomes invaluable and priceless 👍👍

Are we not watch enthusiasts about our love & passion or are we profit flippers or resellers? 😉😉

We are indeed, Good Sir ! But most people might viewed us as lack knowledge of watch investing strategy 😉 or victim of marketing campaign 😜.

Stay strong, adamant and healthy. Good Sir !

Is there any brand out there that actually makes money aside from Rolex? I mean apart from some of Omega's limited editions? And maybe some collectible Royal Oaks? I really detest the whole 'watches as investment' thing, it annoys me... just as art is valued by 'brand' rather than artistic merit. I mean how often do we hear about a painting that is discovered that (if it was painted by the right person) could be worth X number of million but if it wasn't it's effectively worthless. Total nonsense.

But I guess for the guys who need to have the latest watch all the time, resale is a in important factor - I'm just glad those people don't hang here!😉

Resale value is a factor for me. I'm not looking to make money, but I wouldn't own all the watches I do if I thought I couldn't get most of my money back if I needed it. Plus I'm a terrible flipper. Not looking to make a profit, just don't want to lose shedloads. This isn't watches as an investment, though - it's just me enjoying my savings more than if I put the money in the bank.

No one wants to lose loads of money, obviously. But it's the people who ask youtube gurus 'which watch should I buy as an investment' that rankle.. because the answers are always pretty much the same and who wants to wear watches that everyone else has? Maybe that's just my anti-establishment sentiment coming out, or we could call it my Avant Garde joi de vivre perhaps?😀

I guess those are the sort of people who buy a Rolex and then put it in the safe with all the labels still attached. Different level I guess.

Exactly. Those people are as far from enthusiasts as can be.

whilst there are specific models from some brands that seem to always appreciate. I don’t think it is solely the brand name itself. Sure the brand has to be a desirable one, but is more about the supply/demand side of the specific model. Hence why not all Rolex, Patek, Ap, etc go up. I don’t think it is much to do with quality either otherwise AL&S would top the investment charts! Heck even some LE Omega and Tag even go up - all about supply and demand fuelled by a sprinkle of hype. Just look at the black and white Snoopy outdoes them all in % increase. Obviously some brands have been better at controlling the desirability and supply/demand levels than others or conversely have undermined it by over producing and resulting in oversupply which undermines even residual value never mind any increase.

Example is the TH Brand itself a big draw in that regard - i think the simple answer is no. But do some specific models that are desirable buck that? Sure - just look at some of the more collectable and scarce pieces like the Monaco 50th LEs or even the C11 Autavia. But they were all made in very low volumes. Will the 160th Carrera’s repeat this - as nice as they are and as much hype that T&T heap on them - I sincerely doubt it - they are simply made ij too great a number compared to the collector market. And until the collector market is peaked to the point it drives the price greatly above RRP then the ‘investor’ type who buys for gain and bragging rights over the simple desire for a nice watch to enjoy will pass.

i can understand the desire to protect spend in case of resale. And when buying multiple pieces - that lets face it none of us actually need - then it makes sense. Whether that is achieved through buying as low as possible to minimise depreciation or by buying selectively so that potential future demand will achieve the same end depends on personal taste.

We all, for better or worse, live in a money driven world and that has come unexpected outcomes that are not always easy to predict!

The Alec Monopoly F1 tripled in value as well....

i doubt that has anything to do with the object being a watch. It is art in the shape of a watch I suppose. Those kind of pieces are not driven by any ‘horological’ factor that's for sure.

I don’t ‘get’ why anyone would even pay outlet discounted prices for those - never mind triple RRP. But then again all a matter of personal taste.

It's the same thing though, supply and demand... doesn't matter if it's a Supreme T-shirt or a Patek triple calendar, same principle applies.

I do.... and I guess it's easy to say I would pay £1500 when nobody is offering to sell at that. I believe the going rate is £2500+

Speaking of which have you seen the going rate for original Bolt Thrower t-shirts:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bolt-thrower-t-shirt/264862885709?hash=item3dab0ee74d:g:kQYAAOSwUblfXMTy
I couldn't justify that much for second hand clothing!

Flipping eck! I never really got Bolt Thrower, though I do like '...For Victory'. Just the other albums all sounded exactly the same so I just stuck with that one.

Speaking of which, I had that 'Mandatory Suicide' T-shirt with the hanging kid back in the day, it was changing hands for £500 at one point but now it seems like it's been reprinted and you can pick it up for £15... how does one actually authenticate an 'original' T shirt for heaven's sake?
