Owner Experience - 2017 TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45
Android Wear 2.0 is terrible. Own both, the Original Tag Heuer Connected [rubber strap] running AW 1.5x; and the Connected Modular 45, black bezel & titanium strap running AW 2.0. The Modular 45 looks absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, it's just sitting on my desk as an expensive paperweight. Why? AW 2.0 "OK Google" feels like an unpolished beta. I say, "Call John Smith, mobile", the watch replies - after a few seconds - , "Which number?". Me: "Mobile" - Watch: "Which number?"... This will continue as in, "rinse, wash, repeat". The actual number is obscured by the placement at the bottom of the circular screen. You must either specify, "First one", or scroll up and tap the number. [at this point, its simply easier to use my phone and forego the watch - pointless]. Additionally, some of my contacts aren't recognized, and Google searches the web for someone with the same name - and auto dials them! I'm on an Exchange server, and the contact's info isn't the issue.
Sending text messages acts the same way with the "which number?" problem. And now an additional step is required [if you actually get to Google understanding your message], because in 2.0 you must press 'send' or 'cancel'. if you don't and forget, it'll sit and wait and drain your battery.
AW 1.5x Experience: "OK google", pause "Send a text message to John Smith, mobile", pause... See the screen with John Smith's mobile # "Hey John great game yesterday "comma" thanks for the tickets". See the the auto send 5 second timer count-down and, poof! your message is sent. There's an option to cancel during the count-down.
Unpaired the watch and fired up the original Tag Heuer Connected. Ah, bliss. (Auto update set to "OFF")
I'll keep an eye out for other users experiences and improvements of the AW2.x release. Phone paired with either watch: Android Moto Z Force, Verizon. Android N 7.0

There are certainly some areas of AW 2.0 that need some work. I happened to like the way AW 1.5 worked. It was much more intuitive.

UI/UX-wise the 2.0 version is a big departure. I am hopeful and optimistic that these issues will be resolved soon. Google has a good track record in polishing follow-up releases. Maybe the AW team needs to increase collaboration with the mainstream Android group. Matias Duarte and his team did amazing work on the main OS. If they haven't done so already, his team should get greater influence on AW.

I'm kind of in the middle on AW 2.0. I get lots of notifications, there was tons of swiping away notifications on 1.5 which I don't miss (and like the 'clear all'). The interface in general is more compact overall.

What I will say is that Google Assistant is not as responsive as Google Now was on 1.5.

Having another recently updated watch (Nixon Mission) I see the same behavior (slow assistant) ... so not at all necessarily all Tag/Intel related.

Has anyone noticed more smudging/finger marks on the screen with the new modular ones, I also have the old connected too and hardly get any of the marks I am seeing on the mk2 version that I will soon be selling on eBay? Also as the modular has oled screen would I be right in saying that if you use a black watch face then battery consumption will be better as black takes less battery usage to display on the screen, whereas you use a gold/blue one you will use more battery life? Luv to hear opinions on both these points ...

I can't help on the smudge question but using a black background on an OLED display should provide better battery life since black pixels are completely off. That being said I would not expect much savings. Especially since the display is off more than on anyway.

I like to use black faces from watchmaker, the battery usage is very low. The Monza face of a favourite.

I'm running that always, battery was great today-- 16hrs, just drained to zero at midnight eastern.

I'm loving that app, thanks! Just donated to unlock all the features, liking the ability to see the discharge time right on the watch.

My battery life results for the modular 45 paired with iphone 7 plus, charged watch overnight yesterday evening, wore it on my wrist at 7.30am with 100% charge, right this moment while I type this I am on 59%. I have NFC and GPS disabled as it is of no use to me with iOS. I have all the other features enabled including always on screen. I also don't have gmail alerts enabled but receive all other notifications etc. On average I am getting 1.5 days use with the watch screen in cinema mode and airplane mode on overnight when the watch is not charging. So no issues for me on battery yet but to be honest I use this watch as a watch only, don't really play too much with apps etc. Hope this helps.

I'd be interested to know if that app hastens battery drain itself, please update us on your experiences.
A couple of days in using this app and no change in any increase on battery drain.

Initial impressions after picking up my 45 last night. I'm currently running the latest build on the watch and have it connected to a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active on Marshmallow.

After the jeweler assisted with proper band sizing, I ran the pairing and set up. I received the watch with ~60% battery life left at around 4:30pm, and proceeded to customize faces, download apps, adjust settings, etc. After some initial periods of heavy use, the watch eventually shut itself down with ~2% juice left at around 9:30pm. I charged until reaching 80% and downloaded the update while keeping the watch on the charger. This morning the battery showed 100%. Developer Options are open, but I didn't modify any settings, including turning on ABD. So, I thought that was notable.

Response time is snappy and smooth. This is my first smart watch, so I can't make any comparisons, but in relation to my phone it seems on PAR. I was a little surprised that there wasn't an app installed to view my calendar, so that was an early download. I had also set up some IFFT recipes, but they don't appear to be working correctly yet. At least, not with my Office365 work account.

Wear analyzer currently projects 12 hrs of battery life remain (at 11:50am EST) and I disconnected the charger just before 7am, so that would give me ~16 hrs on the day. Always on is off, but I've been fiddling throughout the morning.

Overall I'm quite pleased, just need some time to continue setting things up.

Just disable "tilt to wake" and you will double your "on time"

I am fairly happy with the new Tag Heuer. Like everyone else here I think the battery could last a little longer and Wear 2.0 does not compare well with the Apple watch experience.
That said, the thing that I find the most disappointing is the watch faces. I really hate that they all try to copy previous analog watches, I fail to see the point of doing this. However, Tag Heuer did a really good job with the timer app, it would be so great if they could take a similar approach to the watch face and embrace the opportunity of having a screen to create something totally different.
What do you all think?

I totally agree, thats why I use a custom watch face with Pujie black app where I have standard "analog" face for the always-on but went with pure digital with lots of complications and shortcuts with the waken/interactive screen. The whole idea of having a digital watch is to make the most of the interface. Pujie does a great job at this with even special screen for workout, weather and calendar.

Problem is Pujie is draining the watch battery way to fast (last only 10 hrs) developer is looking at it since it seems to be an issue with AW2

I would love for TAG to come up with new and more interactive/digital watch faces, or even allow us to add complications to the classic faces at least

Couple of questions to the community

1) My auto-brightness only updates when I "wake" the watch from always-on to On, is this supposed to be this way? is there any setting that will update the brightness regularly? I would like for the watch to update brightness while looking at the always on screen without having to wake it (I don't use the tilt to wake feature)

2) I find the screen on the modular 45 gets fingerprint smudges more that other watches I'v used (Huawei, Apple Watch), has anybody tried a watch screen protector or even an Oleophobic coating?

Related to the tilt to wake I'm using an app that I think is really useful. Its called StayLit Wear and it lets you change the amount of time the face is on when awaken. The option that does the trick for me is the *Indefinitely setting which will keep the display indefinitely on but only while your looking at it, the moment you tilt the watch away from your face it goes back to sleep or always-on screen. This is perfect and the way Google should have done it in the first place

I tried all the apps and agree that Pujie is the best but I don't even get 10 hrs. While the watch faces are good, I would still love that the designers who built the timer interface or the ones who designed some legendary analog watch faces, try to create a proper tag connected watch face.

I have just checked and I am on the same version in the UK. Could you have perhaps installed something like a dodgy watchface or app that is causing the drain and reboot ?

Sorted. Wifi at work is crap. It's spent the morning trying to connect, so removed work wifi and all back to normal.

Hi.
I have bought the newest series of tag connected few days ago. Exactly,I want to get any information from all of you around here who has the watches. Few days ago, i just setup my new watch to updated the latest version and charging the battery until 100%. Afterthat, i just shutdown/poweroff this watch, because i am using any other watch to daily use. However, i am surprise when i want to use the tag connected, i just press the power button and then it won't turn on, but when i put the dock to charge it, the watch just turn on. I really curious, is the watch when position turn off reduction the battery percentage? Please give me some information about it
