Overpolished?

im looking at a 27 year old midsize professional that has been professionally cleaned having all scratches removed. Dial and bezel look fine but the back of the watch looks extremely shiny and looks like it has been polished so extensively that the markings etc on the back are not as prominent as they should be. Does this affect value or anything?

Not dipped into the classics yet so I'm lacking knowledge on such things.

Can you post a picture? I've seen plenty of them that have been polished and generally it would take A LOT of work to make it illegible. Now that said, some of the later 80's and early 90's divers had fainter reference numbers than previous divers.

It doesn't help the value but as long as the reference number can be made out it shouldn't be too much of a detractor of value.

If two examples were side by side and both for sale with all things being equal except for the caseback then yes it would take a slight drop in price.
