Our Dads watch

Not sure if there is a thread out there or not on this, but the other day on a rainy Sunday afternoon, I pulled my old dads watch out of the draw it had been for years. I gave it a wind and without a moments hesitation the second hand started to make its way around the dial it had seen so many times before.

It got me to thinking about these "Dad watches" and what they mean to us all.
My dad has passed on in this world but this watch will continue to remind me of him forever.

Any Dad (or Mum for that sake) watches out there. Would love to see them.

My father in law recently unearthed a few mechanical watches. Sadly nothing of great interest or value. I did clean this one up a bit for him, though:

My dad got this watch from his dad in 1960 when he turned 12. I remember him wearing it throughout my childhood and have a pic of him wearing it in the hospital the day I was born. He gave it to me a couple of weeks ago. Completely worn, no idea about brand (AD?), ‘swiss made’, ‘antimagnetic’ and ‘incabloc’ on back. Never been serviced but keeps time within seconds a day. I wear it once or twice a month.

Whatever is left from the logo on the dials tells me it's an ENICAR

Agreed, it looks to me like it could have once said "RADO" with "INCABLOC" below it. I did a quick search on Google and came up with some similar-looking dials, but in most cases the "INCABLOC" was printed on the bottom half of the dial instead of the top.

This one is from my Grandfather.
Brand is not known. It's handwound. It also has INCABLOC and ANTIMAGNETIC on the Dial. It didn't work anymore for a long time. Then I asked Bucherer to repair it, but the price they offered was to high for me. I decided to refurbish it a little myself, and while polishing the glass it suddenly started working again ::psy::. It keeps time very well since then, and I wind it almost daily 😀.

I don't think it can be RADO. The two letters to the left of the centre-line do seem to be A and D which would make RADO asymmetric to the watch face. The name seems to start one character to the left of INCABLOC which would imply that if it is centred that it is a six letter name.

Great work! I don’t think it’s much of anything. 6 letters could be about right. I haven’t opened the case but I doubt the movement is signed. I’ll let you know.

What a great story. I bet your glad you didn't pay hundreds of $$$$ for something that a little polish achieved 👍

Good point. The "D" does seem to be centered or left of center. Somehow in all those blotches I thought I could see the outline of all 4 letters, but not the what I thought was a "D" looks more like a "B" to me. Funny how the eye can be tricked.

Owww man, my mom and dad are not watch person. They did owned coupled Rolex before which they sold long time ago during recession.

Now my dad bought brand new rolex for my mom to replaced what they have sold before. But never for himself. He said he is more comfortable without wearing one.

I wish back then i knew what rolex it was, i was simply too young.

Oh no, such a pitty. So my situation seems not so bad, since my parents never owned a Rolex at all 😉.

I don't think my parents cared much about watches -- but I still have some of my dad's drawing instruments (I started my working life on a drawing-board too). I did get his dad's pocket watch, nothing special, but it got mislaid in early 1970s and I haven't seen it since. Bit of a shame.

Dad did buy me a new Heuer Carrera for my 21st though 😀
