The first time ever i've heard a towel can scratch sapphire crystal. Not even my plexi crystal (from other brand) is scratchable by towel.

I never have formula1 range but aquaracer is the closest to it and it worked like a tank for me. Definitely no normal towel can scratch it.

Well so sorry you should have such unpleasant experience. Best of luck with whatever next watch you chosen.

I'm not suggesting it. It did. A towel.
Surely not. You must have scratched it on something else without realizing.

Respectfully, what I can tell you is that over the span of over 20 years, I've collected 18 TAG Heuer chronographs (still have all them), ranging from entry level F1s (one from the 90s, another one from 2 years ago) and up-the-chain, and I've never experienced the situation you are describing.

I have put a lot of scratches on my Carrera since getting it in 1970, and cracked two crystals clean through too. Never was aware on any occasion I did it. Must admit the minor dings to the lugs are my fault though, trying to close up the endlinks of a non-Heuer bracelet with a pair of pliers so they didn't (gently) rattle.

Sure Mike, but the claim us that he scratched the external AR clearcoat of the sapphire crystal with a towel.

Have you ever experienced something like that?

I have AR coating on my eyeglasses that get cleaned twice a day with a pocket handkerchief, which doesn't scratch it to my knowledge. Walking into a tree does however (insufficient blood in the alcohol stream...). My "nice" watches are old enough to have acrylic crystals and scratches are common, but easily polished out. The philosophy here is that watches are for wearing, cars and sailboats are for racing -- while wearing the watch. Expect damage to any or all.

somehow during folding laundry, my towels exactly, with no metal parts or zippers etc at all the watches AR coating on the saphire crystal was scratched.

Have you considered adding more fabric softener to your towels?

I thought AR coating is usually applied in the inside of the glass closest to the dial?
