Need help deciding on Heuer 1000 Pro

Longtime lurker... first post.

I'm trying to decide on purchasing a Tag Heuer 1000. However, there's an option to purchase version 980.013 or pre- "Tag" Heuer version, 980.033. The "Heuer" only dial is going for about $300 more.

I like the fact of the pre-tag Heuer version but having trouble justifying the cost. Any input would be appreciated.

Pics attached.

Thanks,

Personally I would take the TAG, it's in better condition, and it's cheaper. Depends if you are a Heuer snob... I mean 'enthusiast' I guess! 🤪
I suppose the Heuer might have better residual value, but I would have thought both of these have lost all they're going to lose by now.
Actually I wouldn't mind one of these myself, what's the diameter? If it's sub 40mm it's a non-starter for me.
Hopefully everyone else will be along presently to tell you to absolutely pay the extra $300. 😀

Actually, out of these two, I'd take the Tag as well. Condition is everything when dealing with used watches.

Thanks for the response, Aquagraph! I’m a newbie to this whole watch collecting thing and Tag Heuer is one of items on my wishlist. The Heuer is appealing because of the pre-Tag dial, but I’m not sure if the +$300 justifies the purchase. One other note is the Heuer was just serviced, according to the seller for over $200, while the Tag is from the 2nd owner but in pretty pristine condition.

Personally, I’m not one to worry about the actual condition as I like the idea of watches that show the “life it’s lived” 😀 whatever that means...

Both watches are 38mm.

Difficult decision as I don't know what you are going to do with the watch that you will buy, but the Heuer 980.033 has a chromed case ( I suppose chrome plated over brass) and has a two ways turning aluminium bezel, was called an "economic" model during the days and has a push-in crown.
The Tag Heuer is stainless steel cased, bezel is stainless steel too, and has a screw-in crown.
The Tag Heuer version is definitly more sturdy, and I would choose the TAG heuer if you are going to wear it, but if you buy it for collecting I myself prefer the Heuer 980.033.
Succes with your decision!

automobilia42,

Thanks, that was very helpful. I plan on wearing all the watches I collect! I read about the "economy" version somewhere during my research, but not sure what that actually means? Price wise back in the day maybe?

Thanks again!

You're welcome!
"Economy" version means lower priced version indeed.
If you are going to wear it, I would go for the TAG Heuer 980.013, and save me the USD 300, which by the way looks great in the picture!
If it needs maintenance or a service, the parts for- and the movement are still available, as is the crystal, gaskets, etc.
So no worries about that.
Here are two of mine, the TAG Heuer 980.013 and Heuer 980.033 (converted to screw-in crown).
