Sad to hear that Mansour Ojjeh passed away today- the man who brought together TAG and Heuer, when he bought Heuer from Piaget/Lemania.
He was 33 years old and CEO of TAG when they acquired Heuer. As Jack Heuer's book tells it, Mansour's father Akram was friends with Yves Piaget (from the Piaget family). Yves Piaget tells the story of the TAG Heuer logo: "From 1985 to 1995 I was on the board of TAG Heuer which was quite separate from Piaget and Baume et Mercier where I exercised my principal management functions. I launched myself into the TAG Heuer adventure having designed a new logo for it in a sketch on a table-top in Geneva with the chairman of TAG Finances. I had to combine the graphics of “TAG” with the Heuer logo in the form of a shield in two colours, green and red, with the lettering in white.” Mansour Ojjeh was a Director of TAG Heuer along with Ron Dennis from McLaren
I'm not sure if it's been posted elsewhere on the Forum, but Mansour Ojjeh passed away, at the age of 68 after a long period of ill-health, on June 6th. Ojjeh controlled much of Techniques d'Avant Garde's inetrests and is well rembered for his activities in the 1980s, being instrumental in that very exciting McLaren/TAG-Porsche/Heuer era, co-operating closely with McLaren's Ron Dennis in driving the TAG-Heuer brand forward by close association with motor sport.. He avoided publicity and some tantalising snippets can be read in the 'Mastering Time' book and also McLaren's long-defunct in-house magazine . Being a great S/el fan, I always associate Mansour Ojjeh with the 80s/90s TAG-Heuer range.
Whoops ! Thanks MSpeedster - I did try 'searching' but somehow missed it. I'm very glad that Mr Ojjeh's passing didn't go unremarked here....
