·Dear Calibre 11 community,
Thanks to the helpful information provided in this forum, I recently purchased my first Heuer chronograph (Silverstone re-issue). I absolutely loved the watch and wore it everyday during the quarantine. Unfortunately, my first post on this forum is to ask for your opinion/advice on how to repair this watch.
Recently, I dropped the watch from only about 1 foot onto bathroom floor, but still managed to damage the crown and stem... I apologize that I did not take more photos, but basically the crown was bent downward in the direction indicated in the photo. All the functions seemed to be working fine, but I did not touch the watch ever since to prevent any further damage.
In the next couple of days, I did extensive research and decided to send the watch to a watchmaker in NJ. After looking at the watch, he noted that the crown was no longer attached to the stem (which surprised me since it seemed to be intact when I sent it). Also, as he did not have Tag Heuer parts, he recommended that I send it to Tag Heuer service center in NJ to have it overhauled. Previous owner told me that the watch was serviced in 2017 but the watchmaker informed me that overhaul is recommended after the drop since dust might have gotten in through the crown (which, again, I thought was intact).
I was wondering if you would be willing to share your experience with TAG service center recently. Reading about the horror stories on web makes me really hesitant to send the watch to them but was curious if their service has improved recently. Also, if you have any watchmakers in the US that you recommend (and can service modern/vintage Heuers), please let me know. I live in NYC area but do not mind shipping out my watch (honestly given up trying to find an honest watchmaker with good reputation locally).
