Ummm, I was dwelling over this offer. Are you sure we cannot just trade-in the head and then keep the lugs and strap etc, as I also have the Calibre 16 mechanical head which I interchange with the smart watch. If u read the trade-in offer it does not say it must be complete? What do you all think ? 🤪

I have sent the following to Tag customer services, awaiting their reply for anyone who is interested, want to confirm before taking the plunge .. lol .

Hello, I am interested in purchasing the Gen 3 connected watch and would like to trade in my gen 2 45 connected watch head in. As I also have the mechanical calibration 16 head I would like to keep the strap and lugs for this watch. Can I please confirm that I can send the working watch head only and receive the £300 credit without the other parts and accessories?

I would pay 300 to trade my cm45 head for a new one. The rest is bullshit.

So I now have the correct answer from TAG , this may help anyone who is considering the trade-in offer

We are pleased to inform you that, according to the information provided, your TAG Heuer Connected watch is eligible for Trade-in.

Yes you can send the watch head back to us only if you have the modular piece and would like to keep the accessories.

Following this step, a physical check will be made on your watch. Bear in mind that the access to the Trade-in will also depend on the physical check that will be made on your watch.
Nevertheless, you can now proceed to the purchase of your new TAG Heuer Connected Watch online or at TAG Heuer Oxford Street Boutique.

If you purchase online, please contact us again within thirty days simply by answering to this email and provide us with your Order ID.

After that, we will contact you again to provide you with further instructions on how to proceed with the return of the Connected watch you want to trade-in.

Well, some common sense I suppose. I’m not sure what the physical check of the watch is ? Do they expect it to be working before they throw it away ? I would still be careful , will they still accept broken modules ?

They speak in riddles, can never get a straight answer from them. They say, bear in mind that the trade in is only valid after a successful inspection of the watch. Does that mean they have check the serial number and are happy or does it have to work ?

I did ask them that, this is what I asked them, and again ignored that question .. for completeness I am going to go back and ask them that. They answered 2 and not 1 .. 😡

Have 2 questions?
1) Does the watch have to be in working condition or does it not matter as you will dispose of it anyways?
2) Can I only send you back the watch-head only and keep the strap and lugs as I have another mechanical modular watch I can use that with?

I have just emailed them again and asked them this, lets see what they see.
1) Does the watch have to be in working condition or does it not matter as you will dispose of it anyways? Will you accept a watch that does not turn on, or cracked screen etc?

Maybe spell it out for them. Ask them the criteria for a physical check of the watch. Is it only serial number valid, or does the watch have to be functioning

I am not au fait with current values of the various Connected models, but would the watch head not be worth more than £300 if you sold it on eBay?

Yeah I reckon you could potentially get another £100 or so but I do have a few marks on the case and is not in pristine condition. Plus Ebay will take their fees and could have issues with buyer, cash reversal claims etc, not worth the hassle for that additional amount I think.

If they confirm that only the watch head can be delivered, and that it does not need to work, then that would be the only way this trade-in program can be of interest.

A properly functioning watch head can be sold for at least £300-£400 depending on its condition, and the Gen3 is sure to be bought with a good discount on an AD, probably close to the £300 they offer with the trade-in program. So just handing over a broken watch head can make the trade-in program an interesting deal.

Would TAG accept a broken watch head? Could buy a busted one off Ebay, and trade it in for a discounted Gen.3 😀

I wonder what TAG will do with the old ones, would they really recycle them? The most they could do is reuse the titanium. The digitiser is probably bonded to the sapphire crystal, but maybe it could be scraped off and and the sapphire refinished - but would it be worth the effort? Imagine buying your new Carrera with its refurbished ex-Connected sapphire!

But it's probably just an incentive scheme to sell the Chinese Gen.3s. Perhaps they are having trouble shifting them seeing as they're not "Swiss" any more...

This is what I would bet my money on. The margins on these Chinese watches is probably around 95% so if they have to pay someone to get rid of the old trade in watches I guess its a small price to pay, cant imagine that TAG would go through the hassle of recycling the little material that can be re-used.

Also, for the average customer of these watches who are only looking for a flashy expensive smartwatch I think this trade in deal would be appealing. Your current watch is starting to feel old and you can just trade it in to get a sweet £300 discount on the newest model. Remember, people are insanely obsessed with having the new thing. Newest iphone, newest iwatch etc. Most customers dont spend any time in places like this lovely forum, they will probably just think that they can get a sweet deal on the new TAG Heuer which will make you look cool at work 👍

Not a conclusive answer, but sounds like the watch has to be in a working condition, response from TAG customer service below:

This would be assessed when it arrives into us to make sure all the model and serial numbers match up.

In terms of the watch being damaged etc it would still come down to the assessment.

Kind Regards

Hardly worth the effort with all their word games. Just go to an AD offer them 300 pounds less than it’s retail price, if they say no walk out.
