Is My Watch Vintage

Hi, I’m hoping someone here can help me identify/place a value on this watch. There are two codes on the back, the bottom one appears to be S95206K. There is also a vertical code to the right, it appears to be A52649.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Yes, it's over 30 years old. The S95 designates it as a S/EL (Sports Elegance) model, the 206 means a gray dial. The vertical number starting with an A is the serial number.

I also own a S95, mine is a S95.806K, white dial. Bought it new back in '90 or '91. Here's mine:

In around '92-'93, TAG Heuer started to use a new reference number scheme for the same watches, e.g. WG1120 for the gray dial. So since yours is a S95, it's probably from around '90-'92.

As for the value, there are eBay listings for your watch in the $300 to $400 range.

I recall paying about $1000 for mine brand new back in the day.

Hi Lizi
If your watch is the one pictured in your avatar then I'm afraid it's a fake.

Yes, it's over 30 years old.

Is that the yardstick that makes a watch "vintage"?? I've often wondered.

In the car/bike world is used to be that "Vintage" was before 1920 (IIRC), and then "Classic" was anything made after 1920, but before "30 years ago" (ie, a rolling standard). But thanks to hubris "Vintage" is now slapped on virtually anything, I've seen ads for "Vintage Kawasaki" motorcycles...

I think it's now taken (in common practise) to mean "Anything made before I became aware of it".

I think at one time it was something like 25 years was vintage and 100 years was antique, and that probably worked in the 1980s, but if we keep applying that then 1999 is vintage - and that isn't really appropriate, hence the neo-vintage tag that S/ELs seem to have picked up - to distinguish them from original Monacos and Carreras.

I've seen different interpretations of what "vintage" means in the watch world. Generally, I've seen 25 years as old enough to be called vintage.

I feel there used to be a clean line where Heuer was vintage and the oldest TAG Heuers were more like neo-vintage as you say.

However, as time marches on, I feel that line has changed. Most would consider any watch older than 30 years to be vintage, so I feel that any TAG older than 30 years can be called a vintage TAG Heuer.

In the terms of the OP's question, it really depends upon how old Lizi feels "vintage" is.

Wow really?! What makes it a fake? Yes it is the watch in the avatar. How disappointing, I’m curious to know what makes it a fake. Thanks so much for your input.

This is what a S95.206K should look like.
And also yours has the classic 'not quite right' fake SEL case shape.
The TAG Heuer logo is too big as are the subdials.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Oh…. And it looks so detailed, even the back of the watch face!
Thank you so very much, at least I know now. And thank you also for the link. I really appreciate your time 😀

I came across this in a box of old things I purchased at a boot sale. However I don't know if it's real. Could someone help out.

Sure, it's not a good fake so it's not like a small detail or anything. The general quality of the watch is poor, you just have to compare it to a photo of a real ladies S/EL. But also one of the obvious points is that the bracelet should be made of two separate parts (left and right) whereas yours the links are solid. The crown is also the wrong shape. The dial is wrong and I don't think there was a blue ladies S/EL, certainly not that tone of blue - possibly a darker one.
