After scouring the net without any luck, I am hoping someone will be able to narrow down the year of manufacture for an Heuer 3647 with serial number 20xxx. I am delighted with the watch, my first ever vintage Heuer. It keeps excellent time and to my mind is a lovely looking watch but I would love to know what year it is from. I have recently seen a similar 3647 for sale claimed to be from 1966 with the serial number 24xxx, although this is without papers to verify the age. Any help would be gratefully received.
    Thanks

Hi, do you have a photo of the watch (front and back) and serial number? I don't believe a 3647 would have a number anywhere near that-more likely 50xxx-80xxx.
    Thanks, Steve

Steve is right, the serial numbers for Carreras start in the 53xxx range or so. As for general years the 3647 was produced, it would have been between 1964 and 1968 or so.

Thanks for the responses, I seem to be suffering from dyslexia. The number does indeed start 70 not 20, the full number is 70213. I have attached photos of the front and back as suggested, together with a partial photo of the inside back cover taken before I purchased the watch. It does not show in the photo but at the bottom of the inside is stamped 92. I was told it is the original back which has a little pitting as can be seen 2hQMoFOHQAO9YICxRo3DIg.jpg View attachment 987250 fullsizeoutput_383.jpeg

A little follow up as the photo of the back was particularly poor I have had another go in the hope this one is better.
    Thanks again. fullsizeoutput_384.jpeg

That makes more sense now. So the serial along with the round case back puts it later in production. Difficult to pinpoint but based on other serial numbers sold I would estimate 1967-1969. The 92 on the caseback inside likely refers to the Valjoux 92 movement it contains.

    Hope that helps?

70 serial number would suggest probably later 1966 or 1967.
