Hello Heuer collectors! I’m new to this brand...

Hello all, this is my first post on your forum. I’m a vintage Rolex guy (don’t hold it against me??) but I’m broadening my horizons. I’ve purchased a Heuer 1163V and hoped to get your thoughts on it.

My opinion:

Serial # 355XXX (I have no idea about year, any help is appreciated!)

Model: 1163V

Case: strong chamfers, original brushing, and looks unmolested?

Dial/hands: minty under scratched crystal.

Bracelet: BOR Kreisler Stelux w/ HLD endlinks. I assume the original GF BOR bracelet got worn out, so endlinks were removed and put on this nice but later BOR—Autavia did not come on this bracelet?

Nothing against Rolex collectors at all and I’d happily be one.....but for their pricing these days 🤬

SM300 in your profile pic is one of my favourite models of all time as well. I went to great lengths sourcing a birth year one for my mate’s 50th.....the size was massive for its time, but so perfect in today’s world. 🥰

Nice Autavia you’ve picked up. With the high serial number this would be referred to as the 1163 VNT. The 1163V was originally the watch sold through the Viceroy cigarette offer in 1972, but then well after that up to the late 70’s (maybe into the 80’s), so yours would most likely be late 70’s.

Case looks original and not refinished or polished.

The plexi should polish up nicely.

Yeah the BOR you have would not have come with the Autavia originally, so end links may or may not have been there originally. Tropic strap was also an option and love my later 11630 on a Tropic.

An Autavia is for me one of the all time greats and a must have in my eyes, like a Speedy and a Sub in any collection. Looks like you got a nice clean example and the Viceroy colours a classic combo, so a good purchase I’d say.

Is the serial 358xxx and not 355? That would have been more common for a 1163V and places it to 1978...according to Mark Moss's table-

Sorry I typo’d., yes it’s a 358 serial. Thanks to everyone for the info and comments. I was able to turn the bracelet upside down (to hide that finish). It’s a funky little bracelet but feels surprisingly sturdy.

I appreciate the info!

The SM300 was an amazing watch, but I ended up selling it...I couldn’t get comfortable wearing it, as I was constantly terrified I was going to shatter the bezel.

I’ve made a few cool finds this year, some I kept and some have moved on. Here are some from this year:

I found this Tudor last week, it’s currently at the watchmaker. It was in very rough shape when I found it; luckily, there was a nice dial under the old scratched crystal. It’s a keeper and will be in the regular rotation. At some point, I’ll need to find a period correct insert, bracelet, and possibly a replacement case (this case is pretty bad):

Where are these drawers you keep looking in?

SM300 looks sweet...and a big triangle no less. I guess I don’t want to know how much you paid for any of these watches you found at the back of the drawer. 🫨

The Tudor case is rough, it appears as though a toddler may have given it a polish shortly before throwing it off a building. I’ll post more pics when it comes back. I bought a new thin-font service insert for it, to hold me over until I find a period correct insert in a parts lot.

I look in many, many drawers...most are empty 🙁. Occasionally something shiny is in one of them.
