First ever TAG

Since I started to get interested in watches some years ago I've had a weakspot for TAG Heuer. Strange maybe, given how they sometimes treat the brand, but they have guts, and they dare not to be too conservative so the wish to one day own my own TAG have always been there.
I've worked so hard to be able to afford my university tutition fee, as well as be able to spare some money and this summer was absolutely crazy from a work perspective. But those 250+hours at work in August alone finally payed off and since I'm living abroad for some time I figured out it would be a good time to start looking at some potential watches. So here it is now, the Heuer Autavia Heritage. I never though I'd be able to buy such an "insanely expensive watch", but I did it. And I'm so happy that I don't know what to do. So finally, I can join the Calibre 11 community for real!

Just look at his bad boy, isn't is amazing?!

Also a really nice buying experience from the local TAG Heuer Boutique. Not too much extra goodies thrown in there, but I believe this huge softback book covering the Jack Heuer era will be a lot of fun for the future!

Thanks a lot, it feels great to finally have it! I'm sure it won't be my last, but since I'm kind of in the honey-moon phase right now I struggle to see what I would buy next. The best thing to do is probably to not think about it and enjoy hte Autavia as much as I can possibly can!😁

Thanks a bunch Jim! I was happily surprised when I tried it on the first time, it felt smaller on my wrist than what many had previously commented. The bracelet is also so much better in the metal, personally I think it looks quite ghastly on the official product pictures... I've never been to NK, but hopefully you can get a nice discount for your future Aquaracer too!😀

Haha, I don't even know what could top the Autavia at this point. "Forever" is a very, very long time, but it really feels like this watch will follow me for many years to come!

Will you use it as your everyday watch? Im just thinking that for me, if I were to buy a 5000 dollar watch I would probably be scared to damage it. The most expensive watch I own at the moment is my Steelfish which cost me approx 2000 Euro...

All my watches can and are used as everyday watches and worn at work(parts dept in a Kia dealer), I didn't buy them to hide away in a box but to wear and enjoy, there are times when my watch is the only pleasure I get at work mind, and of course, they are insured against accidental damage. Wear and enjoy and let the world do the same when they see them.

Agree completely with Pitfitter, 'cept I don't work any longer 😉 Mine get worn in rotation for a week each, the rationale being that the Carrera I've owned for 47 years has survived with no damage visible except under strong magnification, including sailboat and car racing and being a service mechanic on international rallies at the time I wore it all day every day. My face has more visible scars than my watch. Wear and enjoy!

Oh, exception. In mainline rail stations or on Underground, Metro, Subway, T, etc I wear either a beater or something so obscure no tea-leaf will clock it. The too easily recognisable watch in a zipped pocket of course.

Yeah i wear the watch as it is. There are no safe queen in my collection. I do, however take off my watch when doing certain activities like if i have to cook, or being wrench monkey.

Most of my scratch came from my own wife. When she hold my left hand (where my watch is) she doesnt care where she hold. Sometimes she just took it where my watch is. And she wears ring. I always tried to remind her...but its hard.

I get it, first serious watch can bring trouble to you psychologically. But in time, try to let it go (like i did, i am still as careful as ever though). Cause its gonna happen sooner or later. This is where i am proud of my OCD. I can differentiate between activities where i need to keep wearing my watch or not. Usually if i wear watch to the AD where i bought it, the seller will said cant believe the condition is still good. Have been keeping them ? ( but i guess they might be obliged to said something like that. LoL )

I'll deffinatley wear it as some sort of everyday watch, but with some exceptions off course. That's also the reason why I changed to a more rugged Certina when I was heading out, I feared that the moshpits at the concert would be rather rough (and yes, they were).

It might sound wiered, but my watches were bought to be worn, and they I'll use them much as possible in all sort of situations.

Taking off the watches when cooking is always a quite good idea, especially when it comes to dammages and magnitism. At the same time off course, it's not very hygenic which is the reason to why I'm not allowed to wear a watch during my work hours.

With that said, for some home cooking I'll deffinatley wear the Autavia, I think I'm a bit too lazy to set a timer or anything when I've an awesome chronograph on my wrist😉.

Congratulations! A great watch and really quite amazing value in the watch world.

I really enjoyed having one on my wrist for a month although it was on the camel strap and didn't feel complete somehow. Then when I had the JH85 version with the BOR/GOR bracelet it felt perfect and complete.

Do some research on the movement if you haven't already and find out just what you've bought. It really is quite special.

And regardless of value I'm one for wearing my watches. Your perception of values of watches somehow gets skewed and it starts to become less of an issue and you just appreciate the watch for what it is rather than the value of it. I used to think a $1k watch was about the upper limits of what I wanted to spend, but then it rapidily went downhill from there! And even if it's not in one watch the collection becomes rather costly 😲

I thought I'd get it on the strap, but once I tried on the bracelet reference I realised that it looked way better in the metal than on the pictures. And since the price different wasn't that different, I went with the bracelet but I'm still considering to but the strap and clasp and switch between strap and bracelet depending on situation. I'm also really looking for a black racing strap, think Monza caliber11, but struggle a bit because of the 21mm lugs...

I've read everything I've come over about both the watch and movement, but if you have any good "must-read" articles please share them. The movement is a really cool feature, especially considering the whole history of the calibre 1969/1887/CH80 and it's a bit complicated to follow the history of it...

Haha I'm affraid you're right when it comes the value/price of a watch. The good thing for now is that I'm really happy with the Autavia and finally getting it killed all previous feelings of different alternatives etc.

That's a tricky one! have you tried to make her stand on your right hand side with arguments such as "that's my good side" or white lies like that?😁
