Expansion of the Market: TAG Heuer's Future???

Greetings all,

I have checked out every single form of media marketing that TAG Heuer currently has a stake in. They post regular adds in many men's magazine including "GQ", "Maxim", and "Esquire" as well as other magazines like "Beat" and "DJ Mag" (both of which I would consider an alternate market outside of the target audience of ages 35 and up. My first exposure was through one of these DJ magazines. I'm 23.) Heuer also has stakes in marketing through the F1 circuit and Moto Racing, keeping to its roots in racing events. Now, very recently, TAG Heuer has taken a major sponsorship in all of the major soccer (football) leagues in the world as their "Official Timepiece Partner." This partnership ranges from England, Germany, Spain and all the China.

Is this the avenue by which TAG Heuer will hit their stride of "mainstream cool?" I want this company to be talked about the world over. The whisperings have started, now its time to get the conversation going.

Best wishes

TAG are very mainstream already, I've had a few non-watch people comment on mine, generally with shock that I'd spend over £100 on a watch, it is definitely a brand people recognise (unlike longines or hublot for example). In some circles like pistonheads meets, it's easier to count people who aren't wearing a TAG. I think rather than trying to become more mainstream, TAG are trying to turn football fans into watch fans and tap into a massive new market - sensible for their bottom line but could lead to brand degradation as football fans have a terrible reputation here.

"Pistenklause" makes me think at the Nürburgring.
