Heuerists Elevenists,

I've been contemplating the Nomos by Glashutte, what I believe to be elegant design and perfect accoutrement with an evening suit or black tie outfit.

I find my Carreras to be a bit "sporty".

What modern Heuer would you name for such occasions?

A black Monaco comes to mind, or the Calibre 6 Heritage. What say you?

I agree that almost all TAG Heuer watches are too sporty to be considered proper dress watches.

Which Nomos model are you considering?

The Orion; 38mm, without date.

The Calibre 6 Heritage is probably the closest new Tag Heuer you'll find to a dress watch. On the used market, maybe look at one of the non-chrono re-editions? (Not my pic...)

David,
Without giving any details and not counting the Vintage themed Calibre 18 & 6, did you get to see other of the upcoming Basel World reveals?

I did. With a promise that my fingernails would be removed if I said anything!

There are some cool pieces- and one more heritage/ Heuer watch.

Only two weeks to go!

If you wanted something to tie into your Heuers, a very beautiful and undervalued dress piece is the vintage Zenith Captain line of Chronometers from the 1950s. Since Zenith and TAG Heuer are stablemates with El Primero movements featured in several higher end TH models, there'd be some symmetry to having a vintage Z for dress occasions.

It's interesting how they relate to that idea that TAGHeuer are going to be reducing prices and make (cheaper) watches.

I've always been highly sceptical that the "major shift" will occur. Yes, prices in some markets have already been trimmed, but not a wholesale re-position.

I'd expect more watches at the entry level price points and an overall price reduction and maybe a couple of new models at a sharp price point...but otherwise, I don't think much will change. Many of the newer models are still in the same ballpark as the existing range.

Lastly, pricing strategy wasn't mentioned once by Mr. Biver when we spoke for an hour....but new materials, distinct design, etc were.

I concur. How to ruin a good design with poor taste. This Carrera seems to have been taken to the dominatrix's play-room.
