Hello, I am new here. I tried to get help in another forum, but they gave me the hint to post it here for the specialists.
We have this carrera. I would like to know which modell it is exactly. Sorry the pictures are not so good. On the watch is marked: Goldfilled G20 EPSA 2448 and a number xxxxxx. Is this the serial number? The watch was worn by my father in law, it is used look, but works fine.

Any idea of the value today?
And no, it is not to sell.

I will give it to our son as a family memory piece in memory of his grandfather. Just want to give him some informations about this spezial modell he will get.

Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.

Best wishes,
Fitzceraldo

Very nice! It is a Carrera 2448N, gold plated, Valjoux 72 movement. The 5 digit number is the serial as you thought. There are far fewer of these than the stainless-steel version and there are not many of those. From the first 2 digits of the serial number we can find out roughly what year it was made.

Value is very hard to say because they are very rarely offered for sale so there isn't an established market. If you are going to insure it I would suggest starting at €5 000. That is a very nice bracelet too and that is going to add to the value.

Before giving it your son can I suggest that you have it serviced. As it is now at least 50 years old the lubricants inside will have dried out and better ones have been developed. Do not go to a place in a shopping mall, nor to TAG-Heuer, there are specialists in these Valjoux movements around the world who will do a fine job for around €300.

Hello,

thank you for your advice and hints.
The serial number starts with 120 if this helps. It has 6 digit number, not 5.

The bracelet is from Campagnolo and marked "Plaque OR 50%o Made in Italy".

You are right, it will be serviced before given to my son. I have a specialist for mechanic watches not far away who I will ask to make the service.

Thank you for your answer. Just tried to make a better picture, but I am not so good in it.

Good, that makes it 1969 or 1970, probably in the last batch of those made. List price in the UK in 1969 was £43 17s 6d.

Nice! Is there a connection with the Campagnolo bicycle components company I wonder? Could you make a photo of both sides of the clasp?

The Valjoux 72 movement is fairly common and well understood. If parts are needed they should be available.

Lovely watch, and your son need not be afraid to wear it, they are pretty tough. Well not to G-Shock standard, but perfectly OK for normal wear.

I don't know if there is a connection to the bicycle company. I don't think so. Here some pictures:

That looks very much like Fratelli Campagnolo, started in 1948, making clothing and accessories. The watch strap part of the business was revived recently as an independent but only has leather straps now. http://www.campagnolocinturini.it/

A good choice for that watch in my opinion, gives it a real vintage look.

The watch just came back from the service. I decided to change the bracelet into a black leather strap. Now it looks quite different, much more sportiv. How do you like it?

Beautiful. Looks much nicer than on the bracelet 👍

+1 on that. A far better looking combo. Never been a fan of mesh bracelets in the first place.
