Camaro: size difference between 9220 and 7743

Hi there, I'm looking at getting a black dialed Camaro next, and wanted to know what the case size diffference is between the 9220 and 7743 models.

I know the valjoux 7730 is a bigger movement, and have heard the case is a little larger to accomodate.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the exactly measurements? Or better yet could provide a side by side comparison of the cases?

Thanks!

David

Chances are the caseback is just a bit deeper - AFAIK the case and crystal are the same. But the diameter is the same.

I agree with abrod, the diameters are the same as far as I know but yes, there are very small variations on depth.

Always difficult to take comparison shots but here is one-this is a 9220 (left) and a 73343 (right) which has the same dimensions as the 7743 I believe-

As you can see they are extremely similar, as they are in look and feel when wearing. The 3 register models are little more 'chunky' but still a negligible difference I'd say.

There happens to be a nice honest example that has just come up for sale from a well-known collector-

Thank you so much for the comparison Steve! I do love the Camaro. They tend to be a little polarising, for example my girlfriend hates the shape. I just can't shake it though they are just fantastic looking to my eye.

I love them as well and lots of fans on this board of them. I think they are a great mix of late 60s/early 70s funk before things went overboard in the 70s - especially some of the later dial executions. I also think they wear great on the wrist given their size as case makes them appear bigger then they are.

Also, Steve is the expert on these watches so would trust his judgment on all things Camaro!

Buy one and strap it on, she'll change her tune most likely! I think my old 9220T was probably my most-complimented watch - not that I ever solicited them, but people noticed it.

😟 You're making me blush! Actually, my wife really dislikes them...they are 'SO 1970s!!!' (in a bad way, apparently.) Her loss.

I have relatively small wrists but was stunned how well-fitting they were when I first tried one. That one for sale has gone now but just do it, as abrod says, you won't regret it! 😁

Those are great. I'm looking out for a good 9220nt. Really tricky finding good condition cases though.

Oldwatchlady thinks they are cool so that's good enough for me! Agree they wear great. Love that era for chronograph sizes. Recently got a 3647s and love it.
