I guess this is predominantly a US thing for now, although world domination is surely next on the agenda.

Crown & Caliber is a pre-owned online shop. They also have great content / videos there. (Youtube) I’ve bought one of my TAG Heuer watches there. I’ll post the letter here so everyone can also read (italicized) ;)

“Today, I have some very exciting news to share with you. After eight years of building the #1 solution for buying and selling pre-owned luxury watches, Crown & Caliber has been acquired by HODINKEE, the industry leader in the world of watches.

Back in 2015, HODINKEE’s founder Benjamin Clymer and I had discussed the idea of combining our two companies over dinner. At the time, neither company was ready, but the idea never faded. With mutual respect for each other over the years, the Crown & Caliber team has watched with great admiration as HODINKEE has become an undisputed leader in editorial content, and a formidable online retailer in its own right. Similarly, the HODINKEE team values the incredible customer service and trusted reputation Crown & Caliber has earned for buying and selling pre-owned watches. As we looked at the future of our businesses, we both realized we would benefit from each other’s strengths.

So, what does this mean for you, our community?

Well, in the near term, you’ll continue to receive the excellent level of customer service you’ve come to expect from us, but you’ll also see added benefits such as the ability to sell your watch to Crown & Caliber and receive HODINKEE shop credit. And you can even insure your watch through HODINKEE Insurance. We have additional plans for the long term, and we'll continue to keep you updated on the ways we're working together to make the watch world better. We're so excited about what the future holds for today's watch enthusiasts.

To all of our customers who have bought or sold a watch at Crown & Caliber over the last eight years, I want to thank you for your trust, and your shared love of watches. As always, we’re making decisions with you at the center and have always valued your feedback – so please continue to let us know what you think. Without you, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Our purpose at Crown & Caliber is to ‘leave a positive and lasting impression on the lives we intersect.’ This is why we come to work every day. This is what drives us and gives our work meaning. I think we’ve done an awesome job at fulfilling that purpose so far…and I believe we will be able to do an even greater job through this exciting combination of Crown & Caliber and HODINKEE. For answers to additional questions you may have, take a look at our FAQs.

Gratefully,

Hamilton”

The more Hodinkee control the better for us watch fans

No, no, no, that's a bad thing. Just like Richemont buying Watchfinder was a bad thing.

Yes, I realised after I read the rest of the posts after that one but I had already replied.

Hodinkee’s Pre-Owned Watch Shop. Crown & Caliber. Investments from LVMH at work :) Why create something new if you can just buy them in ;)

Remember though, that LVMH investment company has 'nothing to do with LVMH' according to Clymer

Hi guys. Some interesting info in my readings. For those of you who do not know “Crown & Caliber”, which Hodinkee recently acquired as their online pre-owned selling shop, C&C was already in the vintage Heuer arena 5 years ago. It is interesting to note that back in 2016, Crown & Caliber hosted the “HEUER 100”, one of the largest assemblage of all-vintage Heuer watches ever seen since the Haslinger Collection. Some of the staff/officers of both Crown & Caliber and Hodinkee are actually Heuer / TAG Heuer nuts enthusiasts like us ;) links below

Oh yes there are a few. Jeff Stein’s article details how Clymer contacted him in the early days of HODINKEE to help him source a Dato. Apparently Clymer’s favourite Carrera of the ‘60s ;)
I wouldn’t call these guys journalists or even independent from the companies whose watches they review but they are watch nuts.

Yes, the Heuer 100 was an utter shambles! A number of the pieces were of dubious condition and the execution was.....very confusing. (I'm still waiting to find out if my bid was successful or not.) Nice idea but a bit of a gimmick and overall they didn't have the systems in place to cater for it.

Oh, sorry to hear about that sir @SteveP  Didn’t know about those details but thanks for shedding some light. Happened to be reading Drive Time and suddenly saw “Crown & Caliber” together with “Heuer” so I did a quick search.
