Bad smelling Rubber strap from storage

Hello guys
Have any of you experienced a bad smelling rubber strap? Watch has not been worn for about a year! Was kept in original box.
I have tried soaking it in both soapwater and alcohol for about 12 hours, without result. Any ideas?

When you say "bad", what does it smell like? My rubber straps (non-Tag) smell of vanilla and are so delicious I have to smell them for several seconds when putting them on. Maybe you just don't like vanilla? Or perhaps it's really bad! 😀

What colour IS a vanilla-scented watch strap by the way?
Regarding the stinky strap, if washing isn't doing it for you, maybe try masking it? A little scented lip balm on the inside face? Perhaps not vanilla though? 😉

Cant explain the smell other than very bad and chemical like🤔.
The kind that gives you a headache, it actually does!
And after wearing a shirt for a couple of hours, the shirt smells the same, where the watch was 😵‍💫
Now its soaking in another soap mix.

Well some rubber can smell really bad. i remember putting rubber carpet for my car. then everytime i entered the car i was like what is that smell ? took me full one day to realize it was the rubber carpet. luckly my rubber strap taggy didnt smell.

Oh dear, I have that strap on right now - no smell. Is it definitely an original TAG strap? Sounds like something you might get from an eBay special?

I have had it once with a rubber strap that smelled like mold. It was a vintage rubber strap actually. What I did is I put it away in anti-bacterial mouth-water (like Odol, Listerine) for 24 hours.
Then it smelled like peppermint, which I liked better 😁
Those Bonetto straps are really something, I have a 285 on a watch, smells absolutely like vanilla, nice quality too!

I have no idea if its a fake, it was on the watch when I bought it used. It looks original, but cant tell. 👎

If my last soapmix does not work, I think i´ll try the peppermint flavour 👍
