Automatic winders

Hello Everyone,

Now that I'm up to 4 automatic watches, manually spinning them is getting old. What automatic winders does everyone use? I found some module based ones that I can detach one or two and take with me on business trips. Curious what everyone uses.

I don't use one. Have 7 mechanical watches and I just spin them up as and when I need to.

I've never been that keen on the idea myself and unless you have some sort of crazy perpetual calender thing that is a nightmare to set, I don't think I would bother.

I was watching a video the other day about an Urwerk watch (I think it was Urwerk) and on the back there was a five year service indicator, a bit like you get in a car. But, crucially, it didn't count five years of linear time, it counted five years of 'wound' time. So in other words if it sat unused for three months (not that it should - gotta keep the oils moving etc) it didn't count that. So from that I take that if you use a watch everyday it might need servicing every 3-4 years but if you only wear it occasionally (like I do with my autos) then it will be longer.

So if you keep them constantly wound then it would seem you are only bringing forward the service interval. I guess it depends how often you wear each one?

Anyway, isn't setting them part of the 'experience' of ownership?

Each winder is individually programmable.

I haven't broken a mainspring since I started using watch winders. I currently have these two Heiden units. Inexpensive to buy, inexpensive to replace motors and gear-sets.
