I still want the Viceroy one, something about the 2-register design just seems to work a whole lot better with the fat bezel to me. Problem is so few people bought them they're very difficult to find used, and I don't want to pay full retail for the ones I regularly see in store displays! 馃う

I know what you mean. There was a Viceroy that sat in one of the ADs I frequent for well over a year, perhaps even two years. I kept thinking I should buy it but also wondered why nobody else had. It's such a lovely watch, the two register layout and the touch of red makes it my favorite as well.

Having said that, the thing that bothers me about the Viceroy is that it's not the right case & bezel to be a true re-edition of that particular model. Neither is the Orange Boy or even the beloved C11 Siffert for that matter. The standard H02 reverse panda & JH85 silver panda are closer to the overall appearance of their '60s counterparts. So in that regard, I sometimes think these are better than what I think of as the "tribute" editions like the Viceroy, Orange Boy & Siffert.

True, but over the years and having owned a couple myself, I can say I personally don't quite get along with the cushion-case Autavias very well. So as much as I love the way an 1163V looks, it's just not for me. The new one remedies that a little bit

While the Viceroy & Siffert Autavia H02 may not have the cushion case as the original ones, let鈥檚 face it, we may not see any modern reinterpretation of these two beautiful watches in our lifetime 馃憤 (unless you go for the OG)

Took me quite a challenge to get these two boys. I enjoyed reading about the heritage & wonderful stories of the Siffert and Viceroy (plus Orange Boy) all tied to motorsports! And knew in my heart, I had to get one of each someday 馃槈 Thanks to Calibre11 and TH鈥檚 release of the Viceroy (for the North American market only)

credits to the owner of these exquisite artwork 馃榾

There is always going to be "that one thing" that they miss or get a little off. I don't understand it sometimes how the decision process works at some of the watch manufacturers. It's all of them - look at Grand Seiko and their dive watches - they are trying to compete with Rolex but fail to make a 40mm case - and the fans want it! I don't know who the focus groups are or the people sharing the info but something is clearly missed by some manufacturers final designs.

I am getting where I am accepting some things for the way it is and enjoy a watch more for the things I like and not let the things I don't impede my trying it out. If you really don't like the design of something I understand - also know we may be waiting around forever for them to make whatever "it" is and never get it.

In the case of the Viceroy, you can get the OG for less than the retail price of the H02. Which is part of my personal conundrum when I think about whether to get the H02 Viceroy.

In the case of the Siffert, there's also the re-edition from the 2000s to consider. The H02 Siffert is the better & more desirable watch, but is it the better re-edition?

For me, to be honest, I think nothing less than the OG would do in the case of a Siffert.

I understand. I look at it as more of an evolution and I am ok with the tradeoff. I do like the older designs usually more than new. I am just unsure about vintage watches as a daily wear. Your Speedmaster is a good example of it done right. It stayed true to the design but modern in technology and material. That is a great daily and the more you post the more I feel the need for "Speed" I would be hesitant to wear an OG as a daily. All my current watches refer back to itself in the good old days, just with modern reliability.

I just get nervous about the older stuff - if I wasn't I would gladly have an older Monaco Cal15 and a GMT/Chrono Autavia and a Rolex Sub.

Agree with you sir @thingziliketoo 馃憤

Same legendary inspiration, modern day tech & functionality ::rimshot::

I鈥檇 probably look at these modern day heritage chronographs the same way with the evolution of the 911 Carrera 馃槈

Together with sir @Hubert , I believe both of us have the same Heuer Autavia H02 collection ::psy::::psy::

Oh it's fine, just make sure you keep it serviced and the seals are intact. I wear vintage happily unless it's either raining or extremely humid.

I agree with you on all points. I think the H02 Autavia is a gorgeous looking piece! I've long admired the JH85 in particular. 馃憤

My comments about preferring OG were really more about the Viceroy, Orange Boy & Siffert, because the H02 versions don't have the right case. Whereas the standard Autavia & JH85 do look like modern evolutions of the originals.
