Aquaracer and Kirium F1 Battery Question

Hey Guys,

My wife’s Aquaracer and my Kirium F1 batteries have both died for almost two years now. I was planning to take them in sometime last year for full servicing but the pandemic hit and my dealer closed shop even until now. Should there be any concerns for the batteries leaking for such a long period of time? For the Kirium, could this affect the calendar or any analog functionality? Not sure so just asking.

Thanks.

I think the risk of battery leakage is very low for such short time but would change them as soon as possible just in case. Just buy new batteries and pop them in yourself. Or just at least remove the old ones.

I’m staying away from shipping anything for now. I shipped out a Seiko for servicing and it got lost for almost a month.

Yea, if I don’t need to touch them then I’ll leave them in. I usually get my watches re-tested for water resistance every time I get them serviced.

I'm in no rush at all to get the batteries changed. I'm just more concerned if any damages would be done if left too long that's all. I'm in Canada and although some of the restrictions have been lifted, it's also up to the shop owners if they want to open up or not. I know my dealer is still closed but I will check on them at the end of the month. My Aquaracer will also go in for servicing for the date wheel no longer changes.

Here's a video for how to change the F1 Kirium battery, I have this watch but haven't had to change it yet.... last time I took it in and it lasts ages, especially if you put it to sleep when you aren't wearing it.

Awesome, thanks for the video and thank you guys all for the input. I may just take out the batteries as a precaution until my dealer opens back up and yes, the Kirium battery lasts forever. I bought my watch in 2001 and only had to change the battery once.

changing your own battery is fine, but I wouldn't do it for pricier watches, unless you have access to a water resistance tester. You can tighten the back, and think it's fine, but the o ring might have been bad, or you made it bad. I just changed out a movement in a customers CL111A, due to water damage. Tho that one was an issue with the crown o ring, that literally turned to dust. And it's not a cheap job at all, as the movement alone costs $300+. Speaking of those cheap battery change places. Gotta be careful, because they've been known to do a shitty job, so that you have issues in the future and come back to them for servicing due to water damage.

What? lol. That's insane. I've never seen it go that long before. What brand of battery was in that thing, so I know to only use those from now on! I have to change my batteries ( in watches with this type of movement) quite frequently.
