Anyone know anything about this Calibre 17 limited edition

Hi, long term lurker now registered.

Im trying to find out so e information about this watch that I recently acquired.
Its a Calibre 17 in rose gold colour.
Its a limited edition of 500 watches and was bought from the AD in 2010.
Im just about to get it repaired as the date doesnt move when the crown is in position 2.




Im just trying to find out any information that I can on the watch. Was it a UK limited edition or a world wide limited edition?
Any help appreciated!
Any idea of value?

Here is the Rose Gold Carrera by @abcoro

This watch is Reference CAV514C- not CAV511A as yours shows.

There were two Rose Gold Grand Carreras launched in 2008- each of 500 pieces

1. CAV514C- Brown dial/ Rose Gold

2. CAV514B- Silver dial/ Rose Gold

I believe that both are an LE of 500.
Both are featured in the 2008/9 TAG Heuer Catalogue

Unfortunately there are a couple of issues with your watch:
1. The reference numbers don't match
2. Gold TAG Heuer's come with a buckle/ pin strap rather than a deployant- a solid gold deployant folding clasp (as you have) would be hugely expensive. The deployant on your watch appears to be gold plated (the inside is steel)
3. Your watch appears to have a thin Red line in the middle of the the two sub-dials- the ones above are Gold

There is no doubt whatsoever that my watch is 100% genuine.
It was bought from an AD (The most prestigious jeweller in Aberdeen) and comes with all paperwork/matching serials etc.
It was maybe only released in the UK?
Very odd.......

I doubt it is real gold. There arent any hallmarks or anything.
I wonder if they released a gold plated version of this watch for lower cost as a limited edition?

Oh, one other thing - the date is 2008, not 2010 as previously stated!

The CAV511A is stainless steel (which does come with the red highlights not seen on the rose gold versions)

I'm in the "replica" camp too I'm afraid. Just compare your lugs to the those in DC's pics above. The genuine lugs have a brushed finish with sharp polished bevels. Your piece does not.
Other small tells are the date wheel overlay in your piece being severely misaligned and the six retaining screws at the rear being set a little too deep.
I can't comment on your backstory but it does look like you've got a rep on your hands.

Yeah, but the problem is that This is reference CAV511A (below left)


TAG Heuer don't use the same reference number for two different watches.

My guess is that if you don't think it's real gold, then it's not- solid gold is heavy.

TAG Heuer has never made a Rose Gold-plated Grand Carrera....in fact, because the Grand Carrera was top of the line, only Solid Gold models were offered- the ones I showed above and bi-metal versions, such as below right.


Personally, I'd be taking the watch back to the dealer and asking them to explain to you why the reference number is for another model and secondly, why you appear to have the world's only gold-plated Grand Carrera.

Note the reference number on the case back- CAV511A- and that this is also 088/ 500. Can't quite see your reference number, but am sure it will be the same as this one

Agree- hopefully given it was sold through a respectable dealer they'll offer a full refund.

You can buy blank TAG Heuer warranty cards on eBay...

The OPs post on WUS suggested it was the previous owner who supposedly bought it from an AD. I suspect the paperwork and story has been faked.

Notice both the OP's watch and the one shared by DC both have the same serial, and both are #088 out of 500.

One is a Calibre 17, the later, Calibre 16.

Well, what can I say, shocked and terrible this has happened.
I looked yesterday for a while too if a gold limited edition of the Stainless steel CAV511A existed, found out there had been a gold version made, but I quit looking for more info as I have not that much interest in, and experience with the Grand Carrera series.
And today this showes up....
I can only say, next time ASK before BUYING the watch, and papers say nothing, as you can see here. Everyone can make a fake stamp, and papers can be bought everywhere, they even make them, new, in China, as they do make the boxes and hanging tags as well.
May be a simple gold test would have been the best way to catch this one upfront as a fake without any knowledge of the specific watch, but all too late now, succes with the police.

I know I'm a little late to the party here, but didn't they make 650 of the brown dial and 350 of the white dial? Neither should be numbered out of 500?

Not sure Adam. From what I was able to find, it was 500 of each:

Having said that, TAG Heuer often change their minds between announcing the volume of an LE and when it goes on sale, so I wouldn't rule out that this changed.
