Always On Display

Just lately I have noticed the always on display stops working in the evenings. Battery still 40-50% but the display at timeout goes completely off. Display is set to use Always-On and it works normally for most of the day but then stops working. Is this a change in the latest update to enhance battery performance? Anyone else seeing this?
