Enquiry with WoS regarding offers & stock at Gatwick. Was told to expect in impending 5% price increase come April 1st ::facepalm2::

This Monaco is getting further and further out of reach.

Surprisingly low if only 5%, maybe they will do two increases per year to make the change less obvious?

Volumes go down, the Swiss try to please their shareholders by increasing prices, causing volumes to go further down. And so on. I wonder if TAG will ever reach a limit where they loose too many customers due to the high price? Or if they eventually become expensive enough to move them into a higher tier luxury segment, thereby making the products more appealing again just for the sake of being expensive. In the online world, many consider TAG entry level luxury but pricing no longer matches this image. I suppose Arnault should invest in marketing to change that imagine.

In a couple of years when all Autavia, Monaco and Carrera chronos will be more than 10k, will these watches suddenly appeal to a new type of buyer? A buyer that was previously too much of a snob to consider TAG? Or will current fans just pull their pants down, bend over and accept that a watch that used to cost around 5k has not changed or improved at all except that it now costs 9-10k.

UK inflation rate is 5.5% so actually... prices are moving with general costs. Wages however are a different story, I do wonder if I will ever buy another brand new watch.

Keeping with the overall inflation rate is about fair.

The question REALLY is that if someone was planning on spending $6750 for a new Monaco or $6300 for new Autavia is <$340 going to dissuade them from actually buying it? I’d argue not really but the increases follows most in the luxury segment with some brands increasing as much as 10% or more (*cough.. Rolex)

You can't really blame Rolex for increasing prices when they know their goods are being resold for 2-3 times the original price..

Inflation will be a hell of lot more than 5% this year. Basics such as gas, electricity, flour, pasta etc are increasing at a rate not seen since the 70s. Wages aren't exactly following so I expect a significant drop in sales for affordable luxury goods. Rolex will still thrive as these are regarded investment to hedge against inflation. TAG Heuer not so much.

Good job they have the purple Monaco coming, no one will be able to resist that even with the extra 5% :D

Interesting point as I for one believe the current RRP is expensive for what it is (but also conscious of the iconic design - Monaco) and additional 5% just pushes this further forward.

But food for thought regarding new fans if £10k

I have a watchbook from '07 where the Monaco Steve McQueen had a listprice of 2825 euro, now a Monaco goes for around 6k, so probably will be around 10k in a couple of years yes.

You’re welcome. Sorry for initially having added it to the wrong thread…

As regards the price increase: I’m tempted to say that 5% is almost bearable, if it is for the entire year (although my salary still doesn’t follow).

What’s much harder to swallow, IMHO, are decreasing rebates on the parallel market and significant increases in the used market (First gen Carrera Cal.16 for 2.5k and the like)
