·That's awesome. When I was in Tokyo in 2004 we spent an afternoon on Odaiba and happened into the Toyota showcase. There were some JGTC cars there but not the rally cars. I think the Denso SARD Supra was there iirc.
It's a shame (to me) that TAG Heuer have never (as far as I can see) done any models that commemorate the watches that they have acknowledged that they have a great dept to - the 80s-90s 1000 series Divers.
Yes, you can see design elements in various of their modern models and the Aquaracer is the spiritual descendant (well - as much as possible), but it's got to be said that the classic Diver style has never really gone out of fashion, although I suppose Rolex basically have the monopoly on the basic look.
I might not be in a position to buy a modern TAG commemorative Diver - but I think I'd certainly start saving if one appeared in the line up!
I would like to see a reissue of the 1000 too. Although one size only please - or one mens and one ladies. But not the myriad sizes they used to do.
Had not thought about tye 35 year anniversary this year! Watch brands tend to use every chance they get to make special editions etc, strange that Tag is not celebrating this
it is odd they've not done it, but would it have been such a stir as the 160 years? Is the market for the 35 years as big in terms of collectors and the models they’d celebrate.
personally i’d doubt I’d even look at one. Never mind buy it. I realise it is a divisive opinion - and I sincerely don’t wish to offend those in the community who enjoy the tag part of the brand. But i suspect they know that in terms of “LE spend” That they’ve hit the mark - at least buy getting the HH reissues out first. Judging buy overwhelmingly positive reviews, feedback and even hype in the usual suspect watch blogs.
I’m not sure a reissue quartz Kirium would have had the same effect.
Maybe 35 years is an odd number, but they have form for celebrating 40 years, so 2025 will surely be the time to celebrate TAG, and then it will be 165yrs of Heuer which is not a big deal.
I suspect a Kirium re-issue would have to be an automatic as one of the problems with the Kirium was that the bracelet cost a lot of money to make so it would have to be priced quite high to make sense
I would totally buy that watch though!
Damn, apparently someone just found one of the 1998 Castrol TOM'S Supras rotting in a barn!
