Updated the thread's title.
That's a good change . . . even better to refer to it as "Dark Blue", as that's what the TAG Heuer press release calls it and "Dark Blue" also distinguishes this one from the "French Racing Blue", etc.

Why opaline? Isn't it yellow?
"Opaline" isn't a color, but a type of finish . . . resembling opal. TAG Heuer seems to like the term "opaline" to distinguish the finish from starburst, sunray, soleil, matte, etc.; TAG Heuer uses the word "opaline" with a variety of dials, from white to black and everything in between.

I realised that later, its more of a finishing. I associate opaline with beige, hence my remark

Stopped in to check it out. Didn’t really tug on the heartstrings but definitely the most wearable of the line so far.

I have found it to be my favorite both as a Michigan fan and a blue angels fanboy

If you’re a fan of the Blue Angels then I would heartily recommend this instead

It'd be the new “Swedish” one for me, too, actually.
All conjecture, though. I’ll never spend +10k on a watch; let alone a new one…

Just received a letter that thanks to “market liberization and increased competition” (LOL) my heating gas will go up +20% next winter. Health insurance is forecast to be roughly +50% over the next two years. Then there’s the older daughter soon needing help with accommodation for her studies. And so on and so forth. I have never worked so hard in my live - while financially going backwards.

Im pretty sure I cannot be the only one in that situation. So good luck to all these brand strategists aiming for the same +10k-per-watch crowd 🙄
Well I don't want to politicise this wonderful forum. But I am sure that many people are in this situation now. Inflation is eating up the earnings of many people. Only the ones at the top of the money-printing fiat money ponzi scheme are profiting. Since these are the people that are buying high-end and ultra luxury watches they can afford the new TH prices. TH are moving up the brand from 'basic luxury' to 'luxury' it seems. It's a pitty for many of the old TH lovers who will not be able to catch up.
End of rant.
Now back to the watches....

Honestly, I'd rather buy "luxury" of Omega and Zenith rather than TH if status were important and the above photo were a true indication.

Well - that’s kind of the point, innit?

TH (and many many others) try to change their position in that “luxury perception” ranking by making changes to the product… AND making (even more pronounced) changes to its price point at the same time.

In the “Basic Luxury” tier they had buyers that were still receptive to value-for-money considerations. These are gone now.

In the next tier (or the tier above) there’s tons of solidly entrenched competition. How do you convince THEIR buyers (especially the huge Rolex crowd) to make the lateral move within that tier and now buy TH? Especially when the “stigma” of “cheap” quartz F1s and Aquaracers is still around… 👎

Im not saying it won’t work at all (I do have reservations, though…); but I think that growth within their original tier would have been much easier to achieve.

This is true, but we've also seen the watch-buying market tank completely. So much so that Richemont has already taken the step to reduce prices in many territories, which is practically unheard of. Chances are other brands will probably stop increasing prices when it hurts the bottom line like it is now.

I have pretty much accepted that going forward I will largely be buying pre-owned. I just can't justify the price of a used small car for a Carrera. I guess I could liquidate my collection and buy say 4-5 new watches, but then I could also liquidate my whole collection and buy a Royal Oak Offshore...

Personally I moved away from buying new pieces a while back. My last new watch was the Purple Monaco. Honestly I prefer to buy a couple of pre-owned pieces for the price of a new one (plus a little change).

Your Monaco Night Driver was bought pre-owned? Didn't know that, assumed it was new but not from an AD.

No no, got it from a dealer at a discount 😎. Off all.the Monacos and Monzas, I have only boight 2 of the new from an AD - my C11 SMcQ (211P) in 2018 and then the purple Monaco in 2022. Everything else is pre-owned and at decent discounts

I'm confused. 😵‍💫
Was the Night Driver not pre-owned then? If it was new, but discounted, it's still considered new, no? If it was pre-owned, then a discount off of list is naturally expected.
