Been watching the Canadian GP practice, wall of champions is still taking it’s toll, minor and major incidents, the banter from the commenters is really entertaining especially when things are a little quiet, pity they aren’t the same when the race is on, I might watch more.

Questionable strategy by RB to have Max go out on two fast laps with medium tyres in heavy traffic. After last race’s unsafe release by the pit crew this is again costing him dearly.

Yes, in this race track both Ferrari should be very competitive, so Lewis needs all the available power! ;)

    And some stewart assistance ;)
Although I suspect Vet wasn’t completely honest about having no control during re-entry

Maybe not. But I don't think the penalty was deserved.

Vettel probably could have taken a safer line back on if he's honest. He was trying to maintain as much speed as possible. I don't necessarily agree he should have had a penalty, but on the other hand, by rights, Lewis should have got past him when that happened. So the result was fair imo.

I’m race steward and can confirm you that the penalty to Vettel is 100% deserved

When a racing driver leaves the track, he must rejoin the track in a safe way. The other drivers have priority, and you can’t defend your position at full throttle when you are rejoining the track, or block/impede another driver... even if it’s involuntary. In this case it’s even voluntary, because Vettel could rejoin the track without going to the racing line. He clearly turned right to block Hamilton. It’s a very clear penalty

The back end stepped out and Vettel had to turn into the skid. He may have overexagerated the move. He could have slowed right down and thrown away all chances of a win. Or Lewis could have backed off too if he saw Vettel was out of control. But Vettel didn't deliberately try to endanger Lewis. I'm saying all this and I'm a die hard Lewis fan!

When rules promote safety it's good. When rules destroy racing it's bad! This was just a racing incident.

Yes! I was since 1987 involved in racing organization, being technical scrutineer in the Barcelona F1 GP in the ‘90’s, Race Director in some national truck races, and since 2001 being Clerk of the Course in the Spanish events of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship (Race tracks: Jarama, Barcelona, Valencia, and Albacete), being also race Steward in other races (Steward is called “Comissari Esportiu” in my language). In 2013 I changed the role: from organizer to racing driver (eco races), which is much more fun! ;)

Rules are very clear here (and it’s a safety rule): if you have a mistake and you leave the track, you can’t defend your position when you rejoin the track. If you leave the track, the other drivers have the priority, so you must lift the throttle if this is necessary to rejoin the track in a safe way, and you must never block or impede another driver when you rejoin the track. Vettel had to let Hamilton pass after that mistake, and not block him (If Hamilton doesn’t brake, the accident was there). So the penalty is 100% clear. This rule is to promote safety, and you can’t change the rule depending on who are the involved drivers.

Vettel lost this race by his mistake, but he is now crying against the race Stewards when it’s only his fault.

BTW, maybe it’s better to go to the specific F1 thread! :D

7 victories in 7 races for Mercedes!! :)
Also new record of 7 victories in Canada for Hamilton!!

Mercedes-AMG has won even in two race tracks (Bahrain and Canada) where Ferrari was stronger, but a reliability problem for Leclerc in Bahrain, and Vettel’s mistake in Canada (not a Stewards mistake, because the penalty to Vettel is 100% deserved), have helped Mercedes to win also here...

So I hope my favourite team and driver (both leading the standings) can manage this advantage to be Champions for the 6th time, although I’m sure Ferrari will be fighting in more races...

And 5 more points of advantage for the Silver Arrows in the Constructors standings after Canada!

    This is the thread: https://forums.calibre11.com/threads/2019-f1-discussions.91686/

And yes, it has been a long and great time involved in motor racing (as a organizer, and also as a journalist and photographer), but best times were from 2013 to 2016 as a racing driver, no doubt! It was racing with ecological cars, and even with fully electric cars (Mercedes-Benz, of course! ;)) , but it was really fun and we had a great team! :)

That 5 second penalty on Vettel / Ferrari was excessive.

Farce, even Lewis looked embarrassed in the post race interview, no wonder I don’t watch much F1. Of course those with grey tinted glasses with see only another MB victory, I’ll stick to club racing and the BTCC.Worse than the Ecclestone era.
