According to the reports he had gearbox problems and was having to short-shift. Also, in the MotorSport report Mark Hughes says that the Mercedes is extremely good on inters although Mercedes themselves do not understand why.

I asked JCB if this had any impact on the TAG Heuer deal- his reply was that there was none at this stage. The key to the future will be what happens beyond 2018, when Red Bull will need to get a new engine, having already announced the end of the Renault deal. Given the new engine formula doesn't come until 2021, it's hard to see a Porsche/ Audi coming in with the existing regulations. They do have the Honda option if that improved.
Another possibility is that McLaren and Aston Martin jointly fund the emerging Cosworth engine programme...we'll have to see how a naming rights sponsor like TAG Heuer fits into that equation
